    Toughest LFC Player Ever?

    Who would it be?
Who's the 'hardest nut' so to speak?
The that goes in all guns blazing, puts his head where some players
    wouldn't put there feet.

Tommy Smith is by all acoounts up there, however he was before my time so maybe you oldies are better equipped to answer this one

Of recent times Momo, Gerrard and Carragher are all strong contenders,
Sami can put the boot in but i wouldn't say he's particularly 'tough', Lil Luis's got be up there as well
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

    Before my time too

Souness springs to mind of those i've actually seen

    Ruddock was handy too
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

I've been watching Liverpool since 1977 and, in my opinion, over the last 29 years or so, the hardest player we've had has been Graeme Souness.

I from videos and my old man telling me about LFC players of the past, Souness would certainly take no prisoners.

            Ruddock. **** but hard.
Broke both Andy Cole legs in one tackle, and it was a reserves game.

A mention also to Babb, sacrifying your balls are the ultimate.

Steve McMahon and Kevin MacDonald were pretty handy as well, although I'll never really forget McMahon going missing against Vinnie Jones in 1988 Cup Final.

Jimmy Case (oldies will know who I mean)

Case was brought up on a tough Liverpool housing estate close to the docks. He graduated through the schools teams and then joined a tough dockers' side, Blue Union. The physical nature of these early games would have an impact on the rest of his football career.

Souness from my ERA ie 1971 to present day.

But I am told Gerry Byrne was the hardest player the planet has ever seen

I can't believe he was never capped for England.

Gerry Byrne will always be remembered for playing for Liverpool in the '65 FA Cup final, which took place on the 1st May at Wembley with a broken collarbone. He suffered the injury as early as the third minute, but played on throughout the rest of the game and the whole of extra-time as Liverpool won the Cup for the very first time. The break happened after Byrne was challenged heftily by Leeds United's captain Bobby Collins, but, with substitutes still not permitted by the authorities in 1965, he had little choice but to carry on playing. He and his team-mates, not to mention Shankly and his coaching team on the Liverpool bench, somehow managed to keep the extent of Byrne's injury a secret from the Leeds United players and staff.

I think you may be mistaken about the abject MacDonald. Useless bag of ****e.

The argument begins and ends with Smith, Souness and Case, any of whom would have torn the likes of Keane, Ruddock or Ince a new arse.

I'm willing to accept Byrne too, but can't quite remember that far back.
