Conditions were already too bad though mate. The fans had already done travelling youre right, but many where still on route. Surely better for them to turn around than, park up pay for whatever then only to be told after 5 minutes kicking about its off. Besides, if your ticket was toward the back of any stand you wouldnt be able to see the game kick off anyway.

Rafa And Wenger Unhappy With Postponement

I guess there are fair points to be made on both sides, I wouldnt be happy if i couldnt see the game from the back of a stand, but i have seen games played in worse conditions. I think the stadium manager said they were weary of fans trying to push forward in order to see the game, leaving the back seats, which is understandable, espcecially given our history.Originally posted by The Glove View PostConditions were already too bad though mate. 'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Aye but they had fellas pitchside and they confirmed it was certainly playable and the players seemed to think so too, as for the viewing difficulties, well thats a different matter, and probably a better reason than the other one the ref gave about not being able to see the stewards.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostNot the same as being there fella.
A couple of examples for you:
1) Wimbledon tennis : it always looks bright and visibility always looks good but that is the magic of TV. If they showed a pitch black court it wouldn't be very interesting.
2) Cricket. If you've watched it live you'd know that a lot of the time the light is very poor and the players are in danger hence a stoppage in play.If you're watching on TV it looks like bright sunshine.Thomas Hicks Senior

but thats my point, at 7.45 you could see them, you could see across the pitch and from end to end. So from a playing perspective there wasn't a problem.Originally posted by The Glove View PostWell if you cant see the stewards and Police when they are wearing high vis jackets then what chance a football?Thomas Hicks Senior

not going to carry on arguing about it but it was still playable at least up until 8, as they where still doing the program. Rafa and Wenger where happy that it was playable and thats good enough for me.Originally posted by The Glove View PostAnd at 8 you couldnt. Mate, the weather would lift then you'd look again and it was back. Pitch level it'd be fine then it wouldnt. You couldnt see the other side of the pitch from the stands.Thomas Hicks Senior

Rafa and Wenger dont sit in the stands. Rafa and Wenger didnt have to pay £30 to be able to see nothing. You cuold not see the pitch from anywhere higher than about row 15. I looked at it in 3 of the 4 stands and it was not watchable. Therefore it becomes dangerous as those fans who cant see would pile down the front or start kicking off.
Disregarding the paying fans lack of a view and the game going ahead, you could hardly make out the other side of the pitch. If we had gone out via a goal that was offside but the linesman couldnt be sure because of the mist, we'd all be on here complaining the game should never have gone on in such conditions wouldnt we? It might only be the League cup but there is still a lot riding on such a game and to play it in that weather would be wrong.
The referee will have made his mind up not to play the moment he stepped out the tunnel. He gave it every chance to lift but no sooner would it lift, it'd come back. hence it being off at 10 to 6, then on at 6.15 then off at 6.50. Rafa and Wenger will have known it was unplayable but why would they come out and say so? It makes them look stupid. If Rafa had said we want to play and Wenger said other wise, what would everyone say then? Its so much easier to shift blame. You blame the referee now, like they want you to, when really no one is to blame, the weather was too bad, but no one from either club will say it because then they become the target.Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.

The fog is a major problem at the moment but i believe the Referee was acting in the best interests of the players and i know that the linesman would have a poor sight on an offside decision which may have determined the tieId rather bleed with cuts of love then live without any scars

I dont believe Rafa was really too upset at the match being called off.
Playing it between the cup match with Arsenal and the away match with Watford is better than playing it before the Christmas schedule of Watford, Blackburn, Spurs and Bolton, especially if he was going to play a strong team"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."
