    Alves extension

    Looks like we missed out

Prem move not on cards for Alves
Chelsea and Liverpool target Daniel Alves has agreed a one-year contract extension with Primera Liga leaders Sevilla.

It is the fourth extension the highly-rated full-back has signed since joining Sevilla from Brazilian side Bahia in 2003, although the buy-out clause in his contract remains at 60million euros (£40.3million).

The 23-year-old, whose existing deal was due to run out in 2011, had been linked with a number of Europe's biggest clubs in recent months with Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid all reportedly showing an interest in the attacking defender.

However, Alves has committed himself to Sevilla, and club sporting director Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo is delighted with the decision.

"It is an agreement which demonstrates that Sevilla, as much as Daniel, are mutually satisfied and that the player feels valued and recognised by the club," Verdejo said on his club's website.

Alves, a Brazil international, was a key part of the Sevilla side that won the UEFA Cup earlier this year, and also played the entire match as the Andalusian side beat Spanish rivals Barcelona 3-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup in August.

This season he has started 15 of Sevilla's 16 league games, scoring three times, and has also helped Sevilla through to the knock-out stages of the UEFA Cup.

Figaro on YNWA has apparently said we will get him in the summer but he will sign an extension first. Sevilla are doing very well but is he happy playing at RB rather than RM? Not sure what kind of a chance we stand really, but that he's signed a new deal certainly doesn't bode well. I'm not sure how reliable Figaro is tbh, so I don't put much faith into what he's supposedly said.

40M get out clause, give up lads. That is ridiculous. Lets look somwhere else. He's having a good season so far and if it continues his price will shoot up even higher than last summer.

It's practically meaningless. We have to match their asking price same as with any transfer.

My understanding is that the clause is just to comply with Spanish labour laws.

I still think he'll leave Sevilla in the short term. Whether we are prepared to pay the £13-16million likely transfer fee is the stumbling block. However I can see Rafa taking a serious look at our winger positions and LB/RB in the summer.

Nor sure how reliable this figaro chap is, but it doesnt sound like there is much dialogue between liverpool and alves if he is signing a contract extension, ulness he is trying to repay sevilla by letting them get as big a transfer fee as possible out of respect to them. It doesnt sound like an aproach Rafa likes from his targets though. would guess we are till interested, would think the key is the Sevilla manager, where will he be next season, it is know he is taking english lessons and wants to manage in the Premiership. guess we will have to wait and see.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                      * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

                              I don't think it's that big difference between 2011 and 2012.

I can't see him turn us down if we pay what Sevilla want. Liverpool will always be a bigger club than Sevilla. If he plays for us then he would have a chance every season to win the CL. He won't have that chance with Sevilla.

Sevilla also risk losing their manager and a couple of key players very soon.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
