    RW

So are we gonna table a bid for Alves and get our man in the summer or not?

Without investment I can't see it happening.

If we did get investment however realistically we could go for anyone we wanted.

So who would you like on the RW if $$ was no object?

For me it has to be Ronaldo. **** me, he is on fire at the present. Bloody skillful and scores every game! He's untouchable.

I wonder how much Utd would want for him. And whether he'd actually leave?

I don't see an Alves deal happening without a major cash outlay either. If Sevilla continue the way they're going and make the Champions' League, they're going to demand a hell of a lot more than the reported 12 million we were looking to pick him up for. And forget about it if the rumors are true about Chelsea sniffing around him.

I cannot ****ing stand Cristy Ronaldo. Damn good player, world class skill, but I simply don't want someone like him representing LFC.

If money were no object, I'd go for Messi. My second choice would be Aaron Lennon.

Being able to afford a player is not the only obstacle to overcome. What incentive have Ronaldo or Messi got to join us? They both represent clubs that can challenge for the big honours consistantly.

Alves is the best of all the options from what I've seen. Lennon is a quality player and would create goals galore for us I'm sure, but he lacks Alves' all-round game.

Alves, he can also play in many other positions. Mancini could be another option.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I wouldn't mind a knock-down bid for SWP to be honest. He's an improvement on anything we've got.

I agree. But we're talking fantasy football and, with real-life concerns out of the way, I wouldn't mind seeing Messi in a red shirt.

In terms of more realistic options, that's a tough one. I don't think the Alves deal is too realistic at this point in time. Alves just signed a new deal and it will take a massive transfer fee to get him away from Sevilla. Furthermore, what can we offer him that Sevilla cannot? Six months ago, we could offer Champions' League football and the prospect of contending for a league title. But we no longer have that advantage, as Sevilla are more genuine title contenders in Spain than we are over here, and they have a very good chance of being in next year's Champions' League. And he might not be too inclined to trade the climate of southern Spain for that of northwest England, not to mention having to learn a new language, etc.

Assuming the Maktoum money comes through, we might be able to prise Lennon away from Spurs with the lure of Champions' League football. SWP would be another potential signing, although I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea refused to sell to us. Micah Richards and Frank Ribery are two other players to whom I'd give serious consideration, assuming we can afford a hefty transfer fee.

The difference is that Sevilla will always be a club that sells their players if they get the right offer for them, we don't do that.

I would be surprised if Kepa, Alves, Navas, Puerta and Kanoute plays for them next season.

Yes, but when was the last time Sevilla had a major trophy to play for? They've won the UEFA Cup and Supercup, are top of the Primera Liga at the halfway point and, barring a major collapse, will be in the Champions' League next season. I can understand selling off a bunch of players if they finish mid-table, but why have a fire sale when you've got genuine title aspirations?

Sevilla together with Barcelona and Ajax probably have the best youth academy in the world and that is why they can afford to sell some of their best players and still fight for a CL place.

I think even with investment we will struggle to fill the right side easily, Lennon or SWP would be my choices as they are both proven in the Prem. Messi is a pipe dream and i think Alves is becoming one, the days of Sevilla needing to sell players are dissapearing fast. I also still think we dont play in a way which is goin to suit wingers anyway, we dont get midfielders into the box quick enough when crosses are coming in, the strikers can be picked up relatively easily, it is the late break into the box either from the other wing or central midfield that is vital.
