    Stevie in the middle

Since Momo has been out we've underperformed in midfield.

    Why?

Because what Rafa wants for a midfielder is almost a DM. That's not using Stevie to his strengths. He has far less impact on the game as he spends most of his time sitting deep. In fact, Alonso has been the furtherest forward on several ocassions. Who would you rather have up top. Xabi or Stevie. Duh!

The other problem I've seen is that Stevie is not the best ballwinner in the team. We seem to win many fewer 2nd balls and we have far fewer interceptions.

Corollary: Put Momo in the middle and Stevie on the right!

I'm thinking this might not be popular

Been done to death Speedy lad.

FWIW - I'd stick him out wide and put Xabi and Momo back in the middle

I'd play all three of them in the centre when Momo is back fit.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

That's the best option. Momo and Xabi don't seem to create enough when they're in the middle on their own...in general I think Stevie and Xabi has worked ok since Momo's been out, but I don't think the skipper was fully fit against Blackburn and it was odd to see Alonso more advanced a lot of the time, taking shots etc

Dunno if it’s been covered here anywhere but I just heard on the radio that (yet again) Stevie spent the whole of Christmas Eve night at the hospital as his little lass Lexie was ill once more. Yet another sleepless night for him.

May explain his anonymous display against Blackburn.

                Thx for that

It would explain his below par performance and is completely understandable

Gerrard tot in 'good health' after scare

                    Dec 29 2006

                    Liverpool Daily Post

THE daughter of Steven Gerrard was said to be in "good health" yesterday after being admitted to hospital over Christmas.

Eight-month-old Lexie was taken to Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital on Christmas Eve and kept in for observation overnight.

She was discharged the following day and went back to the family home in Formby, Merseyside.

Lexie, who is the second child of the footballer and his partner, Alex Curran, was admitted to the same hospital in October and discharged after treatment.

A spokesman for Liverpool and England midfielder Gerrard described the latest hospital admission as "purely precautionary".

Nothing ever seems to run smoothly for Gerrard, does it.

Gerrards' and Alonsos' season has improved since Momo has been injured. Gerrard is a box to box player and is wasted out on the right. If we are going to play 4-4-2 to me Momo is the odd man out. I am not saying he is a bad player it is just that we are better off with Alonso and Gerrard in the middle. I would bring him in against man u, chelsea and arse and against the more physical teams.

I know this has been done to death but I don't believe we've under performed because of the loss of Momo.

See my point is that Rafa is forcing Stevie to play as a defensive midfielder most of the time. Do you want him playing as a DM and rarely getting forward or on the right where Rafa will let him get into the box and onto the other flanks at will?
