Easily the best midfielder I have seen play for us in my lifetime.

Said it before about him but he could do everything Gerrard could do and then some, everything Alonso could do and then some. Never seen such a complete player for us.

You need a midfielder to be an attacking player? Souness could do it.

You need your midfielder to sit deep and play make?

You need him to fill in at full back, to go create havoc on the wings?

You need him to calm things down on the pitch?

You need him to go in and take on the hardest players in the game in a kicking match back when the game was rough?

You need him to defend to an elite level?

Souness was the guy for all of that.

Sounds like Gerrard in the 2005 final.

Nowhere close to prime Souness imo. Gerrard had nothing in his game that Souness did not have, but Souness had loads Gerrard did not.

Gerrard in his prime stood out a mile in teams that were made up of mostly lesser players than him. Souness stood out in teams made up of top class players.

And that is not a put down of Gerrard in any way or form, more saying how much of a genuine world class player Souness was.

I suppose in EST Irish terms, if Gerrard was Dan Perkins then Souness would be me
