Weird.
My dad died in Southport hospital in February. I know the place well. I know the room he's probably in. I probably know the staff dealing with him. Mixed feelings about the place for reasons I won't go into. I'm sure he'll come through - he's hopefully fit enough although how this **** can happen to people so young, and fit still amazes/saddens me. He's probably nearer my age than yours - put it that way...
Why weird you ask?
Well, around about the time Owen was being widely touted for a return to us (2005?), my dad was admitted to Southport hospital as an emergency. I was camping with the family in Dorset, got the call, and got on a train at Euston, probably the next day.
I wasn't the most wholesome looking creature on the train, I was in a rush, sweating profusely, and still dressed for camping.
Just before lift off David Fairclough takes the seat opposite me. Long story short, he winged about the cost of First Class and we had a bit of a chat throughout the journey and he wished my dad well. I'm certainly not one for pressing people to talk, and apart from the Owen thing (we were both reading about it in the papers) we didn't talk footy - I'm crap at it anyway.
I didn't even tell him that one of the last matches me and my dad went to together was one of his first for the club. Neither did I dare mention that I was right in the middle of the Kop for the St Etienne match. (And yes - it was a magic night).
I must try and drop him a line.

Fairclough: Thank you all
Steve Hunter, 4th Oct 2010

Kop legend David Fairclough today thanked the many well wishers who have sent him messages of support following a heart scare.
The former Reds striker was taken to hospital at the weekend and is now on the road to recovery.
Speaking exclusively to Liverpoolfc.tv, Fairclough said: "I'm really flattered with the support and also embarrassed by the reaction.
"I'm extremely gobsmacked and humbled by the messages I've received and I would like to thank everybody for their kind words and best wishes.
"All things being equal I will be up and about by the end of the week and back on LFC TV for 'Big Match Build Up' ahead of the Merseyside derby."
