No because most people afaik were saying he is not his father and should not be judged for what his father said. It was brought up though.

Scoring twice on his debut helped Nigel's cause along with his part in that 3-3 against the Mancs, the comeback game mid season in which he scored twice and then Ruddock (christ did we sign some real arseholes in the 1990s) got the winner.

But Brian Clough did huge damage in the hours, days and weeks after Hillsborough as he outright blamed the Liverpool fans and he said things like Liverpool fans then started robbing the dead and dying and urinating on the bodies. And he peddled the line that as he was there it was true.

He eventually apologised and said he was wrong but his apologies were quieter and less broadcast than his accusations and rants.

And it is not as though all his comments were in the heat of the moment on the day as he repeated them for weeks and weeks and did more than his share to fan the flames against Liverpool.

People seem to let him off the hook because he apologised (and maybe because of the Michael Sheen film) but they seem to forget that the first run of his autobiography also contained the lies he spouted and was only later editions that removed the lies.

Guys like Souness were tarred and feathered (and he deserved flak for that) for giving an interview to the rag after his heart attack, but Clough seems to get to carry a "he's a character" reputation despite actually coming out and repeatly blaming the Liverpool support for Hillsborough and also falsely claiming to have first hand witnessed the Liverpool supporters committing crimes under the cover of the disaster.

I'm sure he is a hero to fans of Derby and Nottingham Forest for all the good he did at those clubs and the major achievements he oversaw there, but when it comes to Liverpool he is a disgrace and played his part in helping to perpetuate the lies and coverups.

Every single family and friend that has fought so hard and for son long and that are still fighting, part of how long they have had to fight for justice is thanks to people like Clough who helped make the lies seem like the "truth" and that made it easier for the actual Truth to be put down for so so long.

Some wrongs you can beg forgiveness for, but you should still have to own what your words bought. He can be a genuine legend for clubs he managed, but when it comes to Liverpool, team and city, he was an ignorant bitter little man happy to trade lies for air time and print.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
