Injuries and mental issues are all part of a player though. Owen just dropped off a cliff in terms of ability. Since he left us in 2004 he scored 44 goals. Thats **** for a player so prolific. He left us at a similar age to Torres too.

Flamini did it too when he left Arsenal, same with Helb. Players go **** all the time. The ability might be there. But I that's only half of the story.
      *Except Michael, who died.

Sure there are anomalies who have one great season and never hit those heights again, but I can't honestly think of one player who has had such high peaks and chasm like troughs. He must still have the ability and its hidden under layers and layers of mental issues and confidence problems.
        Michael Owen?

With Torres we all know that that first a couple of yards of pace that he had to accelerate past defenders is no longer there, most probably robbed through injuries.

What he hasn't done is adapted his game to deal with this and thus looks thoroughly **** as a result. Owen has suffered the same fate.

Michael Owen, you forget, had a damn good season at Real Madrid. He had a great goals to game ratio for them and generally scored when he started. His body went, and lets be honest, he was never, ever at the same level as Torres was for us.

Flamini and Hleb were never likely to be considered as the best in their position in the world at their peak either, were they?

You're right though, mentality is all part of the player. I maintain though, that had he not left Liverpool, stuck it out and partnered with Suarez, he would never have experienced this level of decline.

Don't think there's any chance that we'll see Torres back at Anfield (and playing for the home team).

I doubt Rodgers would want him TBH.

The season Torres left imo he was going downhill, yes he scored a few but he wasn't the same player we first signed, that pace had gone and he was struggling. with hindsight selling him was one of the few right things we've done in the transfer market (shame about the way the proceeds were spent though )

I would have loved to have seen him alongside Suarez though, he could have adjusted his game to be a goal hanger as opposed to a lone front man, imagine the number of tap-ins he could have scored

Alas i think the best thing for Torres would be a move back to Spain or to try Italy out (the slower game may suit him better).

Rafa Benitez has revealed Fernando Torres's poor performance against Swansea was down to a stomach bug which left the £50million striker requiring tablets.

Benitez said: 'I was there when he was with the doctor, needing tablets. Still he was playing with the team. When he starts scoring again the fans they will appreciate this.
'He was playing with this problem.

You have a professional trying to do his best in this situation. I was really pleased with the attitude of Fernando.

'I am really pleased because he was doing this for the team. We had to manage the situation but I could not phone Michael Laudrup and say he was not fit.

                  Kaka

I'd love him back more for sentimental reason, but fear he'd just be like Fowler returninf rather then Rush

Kaka would still be better than most if he wasnt at Real though.

                      Maybe.

What about Veron. He turned downhill as soon as he joined Utd, Left and was stll poor at Chavs?

Well Fernando, how bout you show some ambition and start earning the millions that your club are paying you. Or, if you truly love Liverpool then how bout you take a pay cut and come back to reignite your chance of being a true legend

There is something misty-eyed about Fernando Torres coming back and wearing the famous number 9, eh? But it would probably be a stupid (and wildly unrealistic) move in all likelihood.
