Would see Milner as being a good addition as a quality squad player, but would he want to swap one club for another if being a squad player was what was on offer?

A squad player at City has a very realistic chance of silverware, whereas with us that chance is much lower.


He is a very useful player who can slot easily into a number of roles and do well in them, but we would still need to be bringing in some real quality for the midfield (not to mention in attack and defence) even if we got Milner and not trying to pass Milner off as that quality signing.


Would have a similar opinion with regards to Delph. I think he is a lesser player than Milner, but still good enough to be an effective squad player.

I was massively against signing him.

At the time it felt like we needed superstars, but what do I know? He has slowly but surely won me over, and I think in the first CL final season I truly realised his worth. And then last season his worth off the pitch also.

Yeah, I’ve referred to that post and owned it myself many times over the years. He brought a winning mentality and a few intangibles that we will struggle to replace.

Been one of the best free transfers of all time.

Hmmm - he’s be good, a great pro but not able to deliver on the pitch now. I know his longevity makes him seem a better free transfer than others but Matip, Gary Mac, Marcus Babbel all were better than him but obviously over a shorter period

Those were some ****ing dark days when we signed Milner, and he was an uninspiring signing. But yeah, always happy to be proved wrong by a player and tel hen to have my opinion regurgitated and rammed further up my hoop by a fellow supporter and fellow countryman
