But we're gonna need two or maybe even three centre backs.Originally posted by calvoboy View PostIt's not a bad kitty though - £20m plus, what do you reckon?
Carroll = £10m, hopefully a little more?
Skrtel = £8m ish?
Spearing = £2m ish?
Coates = £5m ish?
That would give us £45m to spend, which should be enough for a top centre back, top midfielder and an up and coming striker (you'll not get a top striker for less than £20m anyway). We're not going to win the league next season, but that sort of kitty should be enough to nudge us further towards the top four. Depending on wages of course.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Yeah, that's why I wouldn't bother with the striker this summer personally - was just going with the previous posts. Two good centre backs and an attacking midfielder would be my priorities as things stand.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostBut we're gonna need two or maybe even three centre backs.
In an ideal world I'd add a top class left back, cover for Lucas, and the striker, but we're not going to solve all of our problems in one summer and certainly not with our budget. Should be able to do enough to be competitive for top four though - we're not that far away at the moment on form since November.

FSG are gonna have to put up some coin and Rodgers is going to have to generate a serious wedge too.
It's an important summer that we just *have* to get right.
Don't want to get ahead of things but I genuinely believe we could be the surprise team next season if we get thus window right. This is our chance to re-establish ourselves at the top table."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

I am not sure that we will be looking for top players this summer even though imo we should be as we are lacking more all around quality.Originally posted by calvoboy View PostIt's not a bad kitty though - £20m plus, what do you reckon?

Imo we will be looking for "deals" within our budget constraints which may or may not translate into good signings with immediate effects.
We missed CL now for 4th year in row and we badly need to at least be challenging for top spots.Originally posted by Muddled View PostThe way it's going, we're gonna need a goalie, three centre backs, a midfielder and a striker - maybe a winger too.

We do seem to say that every year.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

If the £20m net thing is true then it more or less shows that we won't try to sign top class players. We would need at least £50m net to even be after top class players.Originally posted by Mostar View PostI am not sure that we will be looking for top players this summer even though imo we should be as we are lacking more all around quality.

I wonder what FSG want? What is their real ambition? Do they want to take us back to the top and spend a lot of money net doing it or are they happy spending around £20m net and wait until someone make an offer to buy a part of the club or the whole club?
This summer will show what ambition FSG have. Take us back to the top or not?Stop the cyberhate

Not enough to take us back to the top. The clubs above us will most probably spend even more than that.Originally posted by -V- View PostWe could spend 20 mill net and get back into CL. Then use CL cash to push for world class players
Man C, Man U, Chelsea and Tottenham will most probably spend at least £40m net each.
Then you have Arsenal.
£50m net may take us back to the top four. No chance £20m net will do that, no chance.Stop the cyberhate

FSG will have to stump up more than just £20m for us to get the players we need. I know there will be money from sales but i think we will need more.
New Goalkeeper
x3 New Defenders
x1 defensive Midfielder
x1 Winger
x1 Striker
That alot of investment and TBH after wasting £25m on Allen and Borini and with links too the likes of williams, Rodgers has alot too prove and if he gets it wrong this window he will be gone by the end of next season IMO. FSG either need to stump up or sell a stake in the club to a partner who can help.
