      Re the defence..

I discussed this one here with someone somewhere last season...and it looks the same this season....

Personally I don't think as individuals there is much wrong with the defenders we have. To me they look good enough and unless we get city/Chelsea type owners then we not going to be in for the real top class players and that said there isn't an abundance of stand out defenders anyway.

But for me we have a big knock on effect.

Firstly, we are still pussies in midfield. We don't have a strong, hard presence in midfield who spots danger early, covers 20 yards rapidly and snap bang hits the opposition hard and wins the ball.

Gerrard doesn't have the engine any more, so he drops deeper to compensate and that leaves huge gaps in the for the opposition to get space

Then the defence/keeper situation....the keeper seems to have zero confidence in his defence and more worryingly himself. He won't command his box, come off his line and then when he does, it's a rush of blood/wrong decision and he makes a cluster****

As a result, this to me means the defence don't have any confidence in the keeper...which causes them to drop deeper as they don't know where he is or when he's coming for the ball and that get panicky and again it leads to a cluster ****

And all this adds together and then is multiplied by the fact that we don't ever seem able to field the same back four ever. I'm convinced that if we picked a back four and stuck with it for ten games then we would see improvements. For this reason, skrtel should never have started yesterday....it wasn't like he was performing like kompany before he was injured and therefore had to go back in.

For me it needs to get back to basics, get a settled back four and get some organisation in there. plus we need some fight in midfield, I'm hoping can gives us this but he's a kid and injured....I said all last season we lacked a strong, hard tackling midfielder with an engine....it's not needed every game... When we play football and get into gear and it clicks we will beat teams (see spurs) but a game like yesterday we just got out run and out fought in midfield, which puts more pressure on the defence, who get panicky and puts more pressure on the keeper who gets panicky and then the whole thing collapses.

It's simple to play Liverpool at the moment....work hard and press/get stuck in midfield and then just put the ball in the box as often as possible

The problem defensively isn't at full back, it doesn't matter who the full backs are if the CBs are all over the place.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

As someone else said on here...the clash of heads between lovren and sakho summed it up...that's happening all the time...both players going to the ball

That was Skrtel's fault to be fair

That comes down to a lack of communication

Doesn't matter who's fault it is...they're all out there just running round like headless chickens throwing themselves at everything with no sense of what the rest are doing around them

It's embarrassing tho...it's Sunday league stuff.

Clearly need to sort it out...it's the exact same problems as last year.

My lad joined a new team this season. He's the only one to have played organised football before. They got battered 11 nil in their first game. watching all the new lads running around attracted to the ball like a moth to a light bulb reminded me of LFC. Embarrassing.

We need to hit these early goals we concede and in particular set pieces on the head otherwise our season is going to be ruined. Conceding like that yesterday so early into the game is unforgivable - it's like the players are all asleep. Hopefully BR will have given some of them a good slap after the game.

To me we've already lost too many games to be considered for the league and I can certainly see us losing a lot more.
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

My post wasn't suggesting that flanno would make the difference but more in response to the suggestion he wouldn't start if fit.
