A five a side mate has this I think, he can play at most once a week, played football to a decent level in Iceland and was very promising but was forced to retire fairly young after developing this condition. Of course he didn't get any treatment or surgery like Gerrard Didn't even get a farewell card.

Well if it is is true were going to need another world class player to replace him, obviously we need a long term solution anyway, but "best attacking midfielder in the world" (arguably) don't exactly grow on trees...

Some peoples opinion of him is that he is the greatest player to ever play for our club ( not mine .. that's Kenny for me.. ) so to replace someone of that calibre is virtually impossible, though there are great players out there of course - Suarez for example who I admit I had NO IDEA was as good as he's turned out to be!

Without Gerrard I think were maybe 2 world class players short of being a team at the highest level again ( that wouldn't obviously come till next season anyway...all being well! ) someone like a John Barnes (in his prime) who can play on the wing or upfront, create and take people on and maybe a World class finisher as well ? ( who knows maybe Carroll could turn into the next Shearer?)....

The only thing that could help me get over losing Gerrard is winning the league. And even then I'd spare a thought for Stevie who deserves it so much.
        One tit for another.

Worrying signs indeed. It will take a colour brochure or at least a YouTube fitness video before I'll accept he's fit enough again for the first team.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Rejuvenated skipper Steven Gerrard hungry to lead Liverpool FC trophy hunt after injury hell

News - Liverpool FC - Liverpool Echo

STEVEN GERRARD is closing in on a comeback for Liverpool and insists: “I feel fitter, stronger and hungrier than ever.”

The talismanic Reds skipper will return to full training next week and is hoping to make his long awaited return in the Premier League clash at Tottenham on September 18.

Gerrard is nearing the completion of a gruelling rehabilitation programme following career-saving groin surgery in April.

It’s been a long road back to fitness but the end is in sight and in an exclusive interview with the ECHO, the 31-year-old admits he’s desperate to spearhead Liverpool’s push for honours under Kenny Dalglish this season.

“I feel really good and I’m back kicking balls again – it’s all positive,” he said.

“I should be back in full training with the team on Thursday or Friday of next week.

“I won’t be involved against Stoke next Saturday but my plan is to hopefully be involved in the game against Tottenham.

“I need to get some full training with the team under my belt and I’ll have a better idea of my fitness condition when I play in a practice match which is being arranged.

"It will be Kenny’s decision when I come back in.

“At the moment it’s all good and I’m itching to get back.

"In fact it’s worse than itching, my stomach is turning.

“It’s been a tough five months for me since I had the surgery. It’s been up and down emotionally and I’ve missed playing so much.

“I’ve had a good rest, I’m fired up and I’m raring to go again. I know I’m going to come back fitter, stronger and hungrier than ever.”

Gerrard had been hampered by his groin since February and was having pain-killing injections to enable him to get through games.

A minor procedure in March failed to cure the problem and a month later the decision was taken to have major surgery.

His rehab hit a snag in July and he was diagnosed with an infection related to the operation.

A week of antibiotics in hospital followed but over the past month he has made rapid progress.

“I basically had career-saving surgery and it’s gone really well,” added Gerrard, whose last appearance for the Reds was against Manchester United on March 6.

“The operation was a big success. I had a small setback with the infection but finding out about that was actually a relief.

“I was at the stage where I was outside running again but getting some discomfort from around my pelvis.

“It was really frustrating because we couldn’t work out what the pain was. When blood tests revealed I had an infection it was fantastic news

“It was strange because I wasn’t ill and usually when you get these types of infections you are in bed sick. I must just be a weird human being because I was perfectly normal and well.

“Intravenous antibiotics into my veins cleared it up and I’ve been pain free for four weeks now.

“Since coming out of hospital my rehab has gone really well. I’m really happy and positive again. My groin is as strong as it’s ever been.

“Now it’s just a case of getting match fit and then hopefully my form will come back straight away.

“I’m excited about getting back out there.”

                  Wow, big quotes.

Can't really see why he'd say all this if there were still serious doubts.

He should come off the bench against Brighton if everything goes according to plan.

STEVEN GERRARD says he owes a huge debt of gratitude to Liverpool’s medical staff who have helped him on the long road back to fitness.

The Reds skipper hasn’t played since the victory over Manchester United in March and it has been a long road back.

But physio Chris Morgan even spent time with Gerrard and his family in Portugal this summer as he masterminded his recovery.

“They have been unbelievable,” he said. “Doctor Zaf (Iqbal) has been either with me or on the phone every day over the past five months.

“Chris Morgan has basically run my whole rehab along with Rob Price.

“I owe a lot to those three but especially Chris.

He’s a young physio who is considered maybe the fourth physio here but for me he’s the best injury rehab physio we have.

“I’ve worked with many physios over the years at this club and at England level and he’s the best I’ve ever had to do major rehabs with. He’s done fantastically well and deserves a lot of credit for the shape he has got me in.

“Chris has been with me since the day of the operation in April. He’s been to every hospital to see every doctor and hear every opinion.

“When I’ve had small setbacks I’ve been on the phone to him at 1am or 2am. The last five months have been a rollercoaster but he’s been there for me and has helped get me through it.

“In the last few weeks the fitness coaches Darren Burgess and Jordan Milsom have done my outside work but I shouldn’t really thank them because they have run me into the ground! Seriously, the plan they have had for me has been brilliant.”

During a week-long stay in hospital last month to have treatment for an infection linked to the operation the club rallied around the skipper.

”The support I received in hospital meant a lot to me,” Gerrard said.

”The owners, Damien Comolli, Kenny Dalglish and the players all came into see me.

“After having a bit of a setback that really picked me up.”

Last season was the toughest of Steven Gerrard’s career.

Injury restricting the inspirational Reds skipper to just 24 appearances.

He played just six games under Kenny Dalglish and is eager to get back and impress the Kop legend.

“I wasn’t fit when I played for Kenny last season,” he said. “Yeah, we won at Chelsea but I was struggling with the injury. I was grinding through, just trying to get from day to day, week to week, with my groin.

“I want to come back and be 100% for Kenny. I want to put in that first top performance, get a good goal and a good win for the manager.

“I’m basically in a pre-season situation now. I’ll be back in full training with the lads next week and everything is positive.

“The manager has to make a decision when I’m physically ready and when my form is good enough to come back in. I’m the type of player who gets fit quite quickly. It’s just a matter of getting training sessions and game time in the bank.”

Zaf Iqbal. I think he was with Spurs before coming to Anfield.
