Doesn't sit right seeing his name on the back of anything other than a red shirt.
I have nothing against Stevie and a huge amount to thank him for. He was our heartbeat and on many occasions our saviour. He was a major major factor in Istanbul and in the FA Cup Final against WHU. He often made made a poor team into a good one. He showed incredible loyalty to his Club and for that he will be loved forever. He was one of us.
But he has gone and the truth is it was time for him to go. I actually think he has more to give at a pretty high level, but I don't think he was able to give it to us...the nearly nearly season broke his heart and Brendan wants to play a style of football that does not suit Stevie.
He is an ex player. We are in the post-Stevie era and the sooner we move on the better. The way the end of season games became a 'goodbye to Stevie' celebration contributed to our disastrous end of season. We mustn't let a similar sentiment pervade our performances at the beginning of the new season.
As they say, "The king is dead; long live the king."
