Seems very sensible to me, as a footballer you get paid for your current performance, not what you did in the past. (Ideally at least, I can`t be arsed naming all our current players breking this)

I have no idea if they do, but I wouldn't be surprised. Is Giggs earning less money than he used to? Or is he simply earning less than the top players in his team? There is no way that he should be earning more than the likes of RVP.

As players get in to their 30s, I think shorter contracts with a lower basic wage are the way to go. Spend your resources to attract the best available talent at it's current peak. In other words, apply some sort bell curve to the wage bill.

His loyalty has been rewarded each time he has signed a massive new bumper contract extension. How much has he earned in wages in his career? £10m? £20m? £30m? Giving him another £1m or £5m per year won't make a big difference to him, but it will to the club.
