He's 26 though, maybe as a very good squad player who can fight to keep a place then it could make sense. When he is on it, he is very capable of just running football games

What? He can't be 26? Isn't he like 22 or 23? If he's 26 already than:Originally posted by Nicey View PostHe's 26 though, maybe as a very good squad player who can fight to keep a place then it could make sense. When he is on it, he is very capable of just running football games
a) WTF.
b) He's not kicked on as much as I hoped.
...wait, were you maybe talking about Jack? This thread is very confusing.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I like him, but I don't really rate him as pivotal to our chances. Keita is about three levels above him and younger so it's assuring that we are getting him in. I've felt Can isn't agile enough to move or pass the ball quick from defense to attack. Hopefully Can knows what he's doing, would be shame if he get lesser game time, because he needs more.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

The Can situation is interesting, I think that he is a decent player in our midfield and is first choice at the moment, but in all honesty I don't think that our midfield is that good. If we are going to improve the midfield in the summer (bringing in Keita and hopefully someone else) then I'm not convinced that he would remain a first team regular with us even if he stayed (maybe he could step up a level with better players). I just don't see him going and being a regular in a bigger side. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Precisely my thoughts. He's not pivotal but better than the existing Wijnaldum and dependent on what player shows up, can be better than Henderson. But he's going so it is what it is and it's an opportunity to improve on that DCM/controller role in midfield. With Keita coming in and perhaps we sign a Coutinho replacement, then Can wouldn't get near our midfield anyway (depending on who we recruit of course).Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostAh, OK.

I also thnk he'd rip up the Italian league and if he moves to City then I'll feel for Delph being replaced.

I just don't see him playing regularly for City either, they have Silva, De Bruyne and Fernandinho. They will get someone else in the summer as well, Can is no replacement for Fernandinho.

Some of the quotes in that interview were not well thought off but the message is loud and clear. He wants to play for a club like Bayern, Juve, City where he is guaranteed medals.
Disappointing but can't blame him. He did not grow up in Liverpool or ever claim to be a hardcore Red or anything like that. That interview was poor but I don't think he meant any disrespect to the fans. I don't think he has ever said or done anything disrespectful to us.
I don't think currently he is good enough to be the first choice at City or Juve or Bayern but he has the confidence and he is backing himself to improve and prove himself. I personally think that with regular game time, in a couple of years, he can improve himself to be a top quality midfielder. The irony is that the best place for him to achieve that is with us under Klopp. I am guessing that is why he wants the low release clause.
Klopp has had no issues with him with the way he trains or applies himself. He has been inconsistent at times but he has always given his best. Disappointed that he is leaving but good luck to him wherever he moves (as long as it is outside of England).

Far enough but the fact of the matter is, we have all been watching him week in week out for years and very few of us will miss him or sign off on him being paid 200 grand a week. Normally I dont care about the money side of things but paying a mostly 6.5 out 10 player 200 grand a week would be a mistake. Good luck to him, thanks for the memories.Originally posted by peekay View PostSome of the quotes in that interview were not well thought off but the message is loud and clear. has he asked for 200 grand a week??? I thought he was on something like 20 or 30 and wanted something like 80 with a low release clause.
I think he is a good player. Potentially a very good player. People say things like "he wouldn't get into Citys team" but I think he would (maybe rotate for a while first and then replace Fernandino). Every good team needs a player that works in a way that allows other players to play football - and i think Emre Can could be that type of player for a very good team.
I am surprised that someone like Real Madrid or Barcelona don't sign him on a free, have him as a squad player for a year or two and then sell him for 20m in 2 years time. Like Madrid did with Khedira. It is a low risk move considering Cans age.
If that was to happen, then I don't think Klopp would be in to sign him (regardless of the fact that the club wouldn't pay for a player that previously could have stayed and signed a contract). I actually think the same about Coutinho - I don't think he is a Klopp player. He made him better and found a way to use him because he inherited him in the squad - but I don't think Klopp would go out and try to sign Can or Coutinho had he played for another team. And that is possibly the root cause of why Coutinho was let go half way through a season and why Can will be left go on a free. Klopp probably was too honest and it is highly possible that Can knows that he will only end up being a squad player at LFC in the future (as opposed to having a midfield built around him)
