A zero limit is impractical and unnecessary. The law as it stands is about right IMO.Originally posted by Rigadon View PostI think a lot of people (too many) still drink (and/or take drugs) and drive. The law should change - zero limit.
No excuses for being over, though I would argue that the context does matter in terms of severity. There is a world of difference (in terms of your threat to others) between being slightly over the limit and being paralytic, as the law recognises in its severity of sentencing.

Nope - it's something like 25 micrograms per 100ml or something, which means you can't have a standard measure drink and then drive, but you're still allowed some alcohol in your system.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostIts zero in Scotland nowadays.
A zero limit is impractical as there are lots of legitimate ways in which people can take in a small amount of alcohol. Even the Scottish limit has been challenged as being excessively harsh due to the combination of those being unwittingly caught slightly over and the minimum sentencing guidelines (e.g. 2 pints the night before and you're banned for a year - 6 pints the same day and you're also banned for a year)
Anyway, a bit of a digression. Firmino has been a **** by the sounds of it. We'll find out how much of a **** in due course.

None taken.Originally posted by dom9 View PostApologies for being a bit curt. The conversation just irked me a bit. No offence meant.

Just don't drink and drive, kids.
2 drinks is poor judgement, any more is poor character. Until we know the facts I think it's a bit harsh to jump to any conclusions. If it transpires that he has had quite a few then I fully agree with every comment made about him, but I don't agree over the limit always means complete scumbag. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Yeah he's in the wrong. There is a difference though to getting in a car having had a skinful and taking out a wall ala Tony Adams and having two glasses of wine. But I don't know what he has or hasn't done. I've driven in the past to get to work in the morning knowing I was over but I had to get to work, he has enough money to get a taxi. He had options. ****ing stupid. I think klopp will go mental.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Has that been established?Originally posted by ChesterDave View PostI think people would be a little more sympathetic if he had got in the car and been over the limit the next morning. He didn't though..
If he was borderline then the police would've probably advised him to refuse a roadside test and take one back at the station to give him a chance to dip back under the limit. If he failed a second test back at the station then chances are he wasn't borderline when initially stopped

There is no excuse for drink driving now but the legal limit IMO has to be above zero but below one drink for practical reasons.
Firmino has been an stupid for doing this. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Why though? Over the limit is over the limit and should be treated as such, saying well it's the next morning so it doesn't count doesn't wash.Originally posted by ChesterDave View PostI think people would be a little more sympathetic if he had got in the car and been over the limit the next morning. Unless of course it suits your own situation I guess
