He's a bit of the problem when it comes to service though, crosses are coming in and he's just stood still not interested unless the ball comes straight to him, he won 15% of his aerial duels today, 2 from 13, contrast that to the scumbag Carroll who was battling everyone and launching himself at everything, even average crosses caused us problems because he tried to make the best of them (won 60% of his duels). Coutinho gets the ball and he's stood still or miles offside etc etc. The service wasn't that bad today anyway, Moreno set him up infront of goal and he put it nearer to the corner flag, he was pretty much put through on goal in the first half but couldnt control the ball etc.

He's far from the only problem but he's a big one. It's obvious Klopp thinks it's too, he's dropped him loads and is always saying "he needs to do more" in the media.

If that stuff about Rodgers and the TC being like "you have Benteke, we'll have Firmino" is true aswell then it's a ****ing shocking way to run a club. As is signing Lambert, Balotelli and Benteke to go with a load of tippy tappy number 10s!!

I think that it's a bit of both, I think he is a decent player who is capable of getting goals as he has proved, as I have mentioned previously his goals have come as a result of his finishing ability rather than him scoring from good team play.

Our creative players want to play through balls for the striker to run on to, Benteke wants players to deliver crosses into him. The two ways of playing aren't really compatible with the players we have. If we want to play through balls we need strikers who will run on to them, if we want to deliver crosses into the box we need people to get wide or get to the byeline and deliver them, we also need more than Benteke to try and get on the end of them, which means runners from midfield. The simplest solution (i.e. the one that requires the least changes) is to play a striker who fits into what most of the rest of the side want.

Obviously the situation is somewhat compliacted by the fact that Benteke is our only fit striker and our main goal threat, with the squad and fitness options we have at the moment he has to play, long term something has to give.

For the record I don't think Benteke is a bad player, I just think he offers what we need.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I don't know whether it's just me, but from a pure observational point of view, and without seeing any stats, he misses an awful lot of headers that come from crosses or long balls punted at him. It's really frustrating, because that puts the pressure on us to win the second balls, and we don't.

The first and only header he won against the pub defender was on 66 minutes.......this is not good enough on so many levels......

For a big strong guy he looked really weak. Seems like a confidence thing but ultimately he looks like a mid to lower team player. Which is where having him is taking us.

Rodgers bought in more **** than I thought. Almost as bad as Carroll for 35m. The ironing was not so sweet today.

Should never have been given the opportunity to get anywhere near a Liverpool shirt. He's not a Liverpool-type player. Get rid!

He is a big lumbering oaf, another in a long line of Bodgers useless signings.... Klopp needs to get buying and quickly.

That one on one through all from Cout or Firmino where it took him an age to get the ball and Tomkins charged him down sums the guy up. Slow, ponderous and complete and utter ****ing ****.

If Sturridge had received that ball (or Suarez..)

Was watching Costa today for the sole reason to compare him to Benteke. Costa was constantly coming short for the ball and looking to link up play, or hold the ball up if necessary. BUT as soon as the ball went out wide to whomever he was busting his gut to make his in and out runs (near post, far post, near post) to give the wide player something to aim for.

Compare that to Moreno making that run and getting tacked (fouled) by Antonio. Moreno looked up and had nothing, zilch. That caused Moreno to take the extra touch and the challenge which would never have arrived had Moreno released when he should to a decent striker.

Aside from that Costa just keeps making difficult runs for defenders to handle. Nothing special, just common sense ones that you can learn on any Football Striker 101 videos on Youtube.

Offer him to Chelsea, straight swap for Costa.

Has anyone else noticed what almost amounts to off-record briefing about Benteke is now in a number of newspaper articles/match reports etc?

If the wide player is looking to stand his man up, and check back then it's fairly impossible to know when the cross is going to come in. Added to that, the fact that it gives the centre halves a chance to set themselves.

When we do get a ball in there, it's more hit and hope than aimed at an area which he has a chance of winning it.
Its both the service and the player for me

Often he isnt in the box when the ball gets into wide areas

When he is in the box he doesnt attack it often enough anyway for me
