How many strikers have we bought now, who's confidence has gone to **** and never returned? It seems when we spend big, we rarely get anyone we can rely on. It's those £10m 'bargains' that turn out best for us.

His confidence is shot to **** alright, whether he can come back from that i'm not sure. I know Owen talks **** but he was a great box man & was pointing out Benteke's weird movement in the box. He's set two goals up in the last few games and had a big hand in one other last night.... that's a bit better at least.

I can't see it but maybe he'll turn it around.

You see I think you can talk about his shooting and touch etc.. as being affected by confidence, I can see that argument (but personally I dont think he has the talent)

The 1v1 in added time is becoming a theme now, 3 of them recently, scored 0 and gotten 1 shot off.

Those misses acutely highlight his lack of composure and why he'll not succeed here. He's pretty much pure impulse and instinct - his mazy, quality run to set up last night's third just looked instinctive to me, apart from finally spotting the easy pass to Tex.

Anytime he has time to think he completely messes up.

There was a moment in the second half where he played Ojo into a decent crossing position. It was nothing short of scandalous that he did not follow the play and ensure he fought to get on the end of what ends up being a decent cross. Instead he stood admiring his pass at the edge of the 18 yard box. For a big fella desperate for a goal it was criminal.

I wonder though how much of this is confidence. Is he worried that he is missing chances (like the one in the first half) when he gets them? It's troubling either way. He just doesn't suit is at all.

He's more effective than actually talented imo. I personally think not being in the box and not attacking the ball is more so lack of game intelligence and laziness.

Did Owen mention anything else about him? I was looking forward to hearing his opinion on Benteke, but he didn't seem to want to say much.

He seemed genuinely confused about Benteke and the way he seemed to be allergic to going into the danger areas when we had crosses or chances in the box. I think it was a case where would have liked to have been a bit more candid than he was. He did point out Bentekes weird movement on 3 occasions I think and did mention confidence aswell. Whatever about slagging Owen off for his punditry (rightly so) , he was a great poacher and knows his stuff about how to score goals.

So frustrating watching Benteke but he's got a few assists, even if I can't really see him working out at LFC.... I'm trying to be positive....ish.

I think that if you play 2 strikers, one getting in to the six yard box and the other looking for the pull back, the problem for me is that you play one striker he has to be the one getting into the 6 yard box and the midfielders have to be looking for the pull back.

Ibe there is putting in the right ball there, almost every week you will hear someone on MOTD going on about the 'corridor of uncertainty' where you force the defenders to deal with the cross if there is someone in there, if they know there isn't someone in there it's much less of a problem.

Its so frustrating watching him struggle. He wants a ball played a.couple.of yards in fron of him, and played as soon as we break, a fast pass, done quickly.
all this take it wide, stop, fake left the right, take.it to the byline and stop, etc... lallana and ibe mostly fanny around with their wing play, too self obsessed, they are never going to allow benteke to prove his worth.
Remember that fast pass across the goal area.from milner a while back, chris nearly smashed the back off tbe net. Thats what we need.

All these missed chances must be eating away at his confidence. He needs some luck (although you could argue he needs to make more effort to create his own luck by getting into the right places)
