Don't know about that, more a case of not underrmining anyone Id have thought. Which is to his credit, but still dubious to me as I think the players will give more for him and I want us to progress.

But he has made his point, clearly wants to make the stand regardless of any flak he gets. So you have to admire him for that.

You need to listen to the press conference, he explains it thoroughly.

        In Klopp we trust.....

He is used to the Bundesliga - where there are only 18 teams so a lot less football. The premier league wouldn't agree to that because there'd be 4 less matchdays and then less tv money coming in.

However, with the champions league looking to expand their competition as well, then something has to give. And if you are Liverpool, then we are right to prioritise the league and the champions league. Klopp and his team will have all of the player data in front of them - and they will know that all of these extra games will take their toll on players. I'm actually kind of surprised with the squad he played at Shrewsbury to be honest. Not so much the starting 11 but certainly Mo and Bobby coming off the bench. Considering that we already have Sadio with a slight injury - and how we lost Milner in the cup against Everton - then it wouldn't have been a surprise to see our top talent not even on the bench. If we went into the Atletico Madrid games with an important player or two injured - or even just running low on gas - then Klopp wouldn't be doing his job. Which is to do the best for LFC.

The media need something to talk / bitch & moan about. And this is this weeks argument.

Also, this isn't a new argument by any means. It's 15 years ago since Rafa got slated for de-prioritising the FA Cup for league and champions league progression. I think it was Burnley who knocked us out - with Djimi Traore doing his best bambi-on-ice impression. I don't think Djimi, Rafa or any of us gave a **** a couple of months later when we were watching Stevie lift #5 in Istanbul. A year later and we were knocked out of the CL early and not going to win the league. So the cup then took on more significance. The win against West Ham was good - especially the way we won the game - but give me the champions league anyday. At the start of this season, if someone told me we'd not win any cup game all season - drop out of the CL with 0 points - but we'd coast to the Premier Leauge, then I'd have snapped yer hand off.

How ****in good would it be if the kids went on and stuffed Shrewsbury though

But anyway, I think most people get Klopp's stance.
Actually, yes, I think many do get his stance, the other managers seem to be relieved he is taking this fight, I think he is gaining more respect and goodwill than he loses.

Hopefully this will force these plonks who organize tournaments to rethink some things.

Klopp has just become a target because he verbalised what the majority think/do. A lot of Championship teams are resting players in domestic cups, even look at the Europa League, it's exactly the same for most teams in the bigger leagues when it comes to fielding second string. Been happening for years, the only difference here is the manager is taking a break too and these plans have been in place before the replay.

There's a good chance our U23s may win regardless, it provides good exposure for these players. The domestic cups are largely irrelevant to top flight teams who are competing for titles, Europe, avoiding relegation etc. If the cups put stress onto league and CL form we are doing the right thing. Times have progressed, the FA Cup doesn't have the same prestige it once did. If they really want to make it important again give the winner CL qualification rather than a Europa League place for winning, then there will be something to play for.

I don't it'll be 5-0 like the Villa game but expecting these kids to get a result is wishful thinking IMO. More than likely we're going out. I think the main cause for optimism is we're at Anfield this time. That could make a difference.

Completely agree with Klopp by the way, things need to change. I love how he's not prepared to take a tough stance when necessary

                I would think the opposite.

The Villa game wasn't even our 23s more like the under 18s and we were the better team at the start until inexperienced play cost us two quick goals which settled Villa and let them use their strength and experience.

Not sure what counts as our 1st team as Elliot, Jones and Williams etc. have been in 1st team squads but if our better youth players play, I believe we have a good chance to beat them. There was a clear lack of cohesion in the 1st game with rusty players, playing with some unfamiliar players surrendered possession far too cheaply against a highly motivated side. Our pressing was also disjointed and lacked energy.

The U23s are a far more cohesive unit and well versed in playing together. Their pressing is reminiscent of Klopp's earlier teams so should be more than match Shrewsbury.

I love how people harp on about the old days with 15 player squads yet fail to realise how far sports science and player conditioning has progressed.

These are elite athletes that are fine tuned to the nth degree. Compared to the beer swilling men of yore, they'd all have heart attacks trying to keep up with our lot!
