I think Millie and Hendo should still be here. if we had replaced Naby Ox and Jones 3 decent midfielders who were not perma crocks then Millie and Hendo would still be decent bench options._____________________________________

I think Milner will be gone next season but currently he has proved that he still can come in now and again to do a job, not sure how the legs will be deep into the season though. Hendo imo might want to play more mins but his form is not justifying that & he doesn't really seem to be a guaranteed starter & you cannot have your captain as a sub imo .. as it undermines the role. Jones won't make it at LFC imo, hopefully the few Ox and Naby cheerleaders on here have accepted that these disasters are a lost cause. Thiago is a genuine world class player but he will miss a lot of games in every calendar year, history has shown this. Fabinho's form has dropped off a cliff in the last year, he can hardly run on times and I don't actually know what he does any more most of the time.. it's bizarre. Elliot & Carvalho look promising but need time and a team hoping to challenge for the biggest comps shouldn't have to be relying on kids, they should have a bit part role learning for experienced top class lads.
What is galling and I cannot get over is that "we knew all these things!!", it was so ****ing obvious and we still didn't do what was needed in the market. There has excuses like "we wait for our targets" & "we have the players when everyone is fit" etc but the truth we rested on our laurels in regards to our midfield and did not strengthen in a position of power. If we miss out on champs league footie come the end of the season, the money that comes with that, the potential signings that require champs league football & our existing talent that also want to play champs league footie ... we run the risk of not only losing out on the best talents available but also losing our own best players.
I really hope Jurgen and the club have some plans to bring in some quality in January because with the competition in the premier league now, we simply cannot afford to miss out on champs league football this year.Last edited by danperkins; 24-10-22, 12:44 PM.Comment

I think the problem with the midfield is we tend to look at players individually rather than as a collection when we talk about who should stay and go. It's easy to say x is crap and y and z are injury prone but you need to look at what they bring to the side. For example Thiago picks up a fair number of injuries but we are a much better side when he's in it, so is he worth keeping, the answer is yes. But you need to make sure you have players who can cover when he's out. If the players you might want to cover are more likely to be injured than him and don't offer much to the side why are we keeping them? That for me is the problem with Ox and Keita, they aren't good enough to start when everyone is fit, and they aren't reliable enough to be there when needed.
Milner I thought had gone a season too far but to be fair he's put some good performances in in recent weeks, but he isn't able to play 2 games a week every week, again that isn't necessarily a problem if you feel he offers something to the team - an experienced head in the dressing room, a utility player etc It's about squad balance in all aspects and we don't have that.
Players will always get injured but the frequency that Ox and Keita are out is the problem for me other players are suffering because of tiredness from too much game time. If those two were available anything like what they should be the whole midfield would be much better off. Players like Henderson would be less tired, more rested and playing closer to their peak, and it wouldn't require players like Jones to be adapted into a different type of player. We came into the season with 8 midfielders which on paper is fine, the reality is with the injury records it's more like 6 which include Milner not able to play two games a week and Elliott and Jones inexperienced in that base of 6, you are really struggling. If it really was a base of 8 it looks much better you can take that much more easily into account.
Replace Ox and Keita and even if you do nothing else you significantly improve the midfield even if the players are no better in terms of quality they are just available a typical amount. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.Comment

We were at our best when the sum of our parts made us better than other individuals. The collective allowed players to flourish and you could argue that most regulars that left us have suffered as a consequence in their new clubs
The 3 man midfield had very distinctive roles but if we are moving away from that then I’m not sure what the new structure is going to be
- The deepest was Fab in the 6 role - drops in between CBs and acts as the lighthouse looking from trouble and stamping it out. He also formed part of our pressing chains
- The left 8 was the facilitator - was Gini and now Thiago. A more controlling role that allowed the left back to overlap and he moved into s double pivot in possession with the 6
- The right 8 joined the attack and created space for Trent and Mo to flourish. It was the chaos maker by driving into the box - fully fit Hendo did this v well
Our issue was only certain players could do the role well. Fab and Hendo as 6, Thiago and Naby as left 8 + Curtis and Hendo/Ox (when fit) as the right 8. When two of the same players for one role got injured it ****ed us. We never seemed to plan properly
I don’t know if we buy new midfielders will he go back to 3 in the middle, for me it still gets tgd best of our players assuming they can physically do what is neededComment

In Jurgen Klopp we have an absolute top draw manager but FSG's stance on investment decisions are not helping kloppo in any way whatsoever. Look at what united and arsenal did - spend huge sums of money and are now competitive again.
the midfield needs a total rebuild and thats going to cost £150m. They simply cant afford to do nothing this summer. Ideally, one in january and two in the summer.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]Comment

you're right mate. But now hes staying we have to spend big otherwise we could be fighting for fourth all over again.
I really like FSG and appreciate everything they've done for us but if they cant match the spending of our rivals its probably time to move on.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]Comment

Who would we accept though? Middle East, China, Russians? Beyond the cash rich, money no object, State sponsored investment vehicles with less than perfect human rights records, who really has that kind of money to invest/
There is something fishy about Boehly - I suspect Roman is in the background pulling the strings somehow. More like a caretaker, until sanctions are lifted.
Radcliffe is looking for a vanity project, but he is a Man U fan, so no thanks.
FSG have done a good job and we are a well run business. I just can't see anyone waiting in the wings with bucket loads of cash that would pass the fit and proper persons assessment.
Interested to hear who the rest of the forum might be a good fit for us as a replacement for FSG.We are here for a good time not a long time....Comment

That’s the million dollar question. Who has the cash to invest into an elite football team without having the money laundering, human rights abuses, LGBT views etc…Who would we accept though?
