Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool boss warns Guardiola over fixtures

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has warned Pep Guardiola that the biggest challenge he will face in the Premier League is the busy fixture schedule.

Guardiola, 44, who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, has said he plans to work in England next.

Klopp, 48, said that the number of domestic cup games had surprised him.

"When I came here, I didn't know there were two rounds [legs] in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup," said the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

Klopp said he had received messages of congratulations from friends after his side beat Stoke 1-0 in last Tuesday's League Cup semi-final first leg.

He said: "I had people in Germany, saying: 'Yeah, you're in the final again!' Idiots!

"That's the biggest difference. The number of games is the biggest difference."

Klopp named an inexperienced team for Friday's 2-2 FA Cup third-round draw at Exeter, as he had 12 players unavailable because of injury, and has indicated he will field a similar side for next week's replay.

He said: "In Germany, when you tell people that if you draw in the FA Cup, you play again, they say: 'What?' Here you have penalties and extra time, but only after the second game.

"That's the thing, it's the number of games, football, football, football.

"Pep is so experienced. I'm sure he will buy a few players and have a good team, 35 players or whatever."

Klopp, who is working outside his native Germany for the first time after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, said he had found plenty of reasons to be positive about life in England.

He said: "What I can say about here is very positive: Great country, great people, the food is much better than everybody said. OK, the weather is not great - like everyone said!"

Hmm, not too sure I like that article. I'm a huge Klopp fan but to moan about not knowing our country's cups had second legs and replays is a bit amateurish at best.

I did like his dig about 35 players Guardiola will have at City though. That's true, where's the challenge of walking into oil rich clubs?

I hope he has a conversation with the club in the summer and they decide that the priority has to be the league, then Europe and the domestic cups are a distant third and fourth. And they go out and field teams that reflect that.

Obviously it would be ideal that we would have a huge squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts but for me, Liverpool FC should be about winning trophies.

Right now, we have a very good chance of being in the CapOne Cup final. With the draw in the europa league, we have a very good chance of progressing to the last 16. And by the time we play our second leg against Augsburg, then we will know if we have a good chance of getting into the top 4 or not as well.
