Yep it's terrible isn't it. I don't like sticking the boot into ex-players, especially legendary ones, but once you're gone you're gone and I'd defend the club ahead of any of them. People like Whelan, Houghton, McMahon, Lawrenson - thick as two short planks, bitter as **** and probably don't like foreigners very much.

Houghton is actually quite sharp and I remember he was involved with Football Manager to assist them with their tactics and other in game features. He is way ahead of the others on the list who are just cliche machines and poor 'pundits'.

I agree that they ALL never seem to have the best interests of the club at heart and stuck the boot in when they can. Even in Rafa's best days they found something to complain about - rotation, zonal marking etc etc. I guess the is just a plethora of ex Liverpool players who are now pundits so the club is an easy target!

All them grumpy arseholes are bitter with the football these days as they look at the average footballer in the premier league is earning much more in a month than they did in a year while playing at the top level.

"Back in my day..." followed with the usual drivel ****e after that is all ya hear out of them!

to me, most of these pundits are failed managers or coaches so I tell them do me a favour, if it didn't get across to the players, it certainly won't amuse me...therefore f##k off!

I have. In the past I have heard him picking flaws in the team and basing it on the most inane of reasons, often using media fabricated tripe as his "evidence"

Shame he rarely showed that sharpness and lack of cliches on Irish tv then. Back in the Rafa days all he seemed to do during CL coverage was stick the knife into Rafa and point out all the "mistakes" Rafa was making as a manager.

Whelan was the same back then. Constantly sniping about Rafa and bringing up fabricated transfer figures to make his point.


Was laughable to listen to Houghton and Whelan snipe about Rafa during the CL coverage when it was a comp that Rafa was doing well in more often than not for us. Was made funnier when those two showed how clueless they were about the other teams in the competition.


Great players in their own day, but just a pair of "back in my day" merchants now. Although one thing I will say about Houghton is that he can be very good when it comes to turning up for charity based events and lending his name to increase interest in those events.

Hes not so bad .... I think Jermaine Jenas is ok also, this new generation of pundits are a lot better in my opinion, Carra, Nevile, Jenas all immeasurably better than that old generation of talking heads

Yep cant see any of them being at a Robbie Williams concert either happy to pose with fans. Regardlesss of his status he just wants to enjoy his life.

Pretty Harsh, whilst hes not going to pick up any awards for insight, hes commentary is pretty solid, seems a decent intelligent bloke
