Re the QF, there’s very little chance IMO. Against Barca, we were the best team in both legs, despite losing the first 3-0. Last night we showed that we just aren’t at that level anymore. It’s not beyond imagination that we can win the second leg sufficiently, there’s always a degree of randomness to results, but I don’t see any reason to reasonably expect it.

It will be tough. I agree the Barca game is not a decent comparison as we were better both legs. The mad omission last night was Thiago, we literally bought him for games like that, I was really surprised he didn’t start. It will be incredibly difficult for us to keep a clean sheet so we have a big problem to solve, and even if we are playing well we still have the inexperienced centre back to front up to a top level strike force.

Yup. Real could have an off night, but they look hungry and have peaked at the right time. If we had fans we'd have a good chance of blowing them away if we started on the front foot. Without a strong CB this team is miles off Real's last night.

Yeah, it looks like a real clanger. Not Klopp's first this season.

Keita did Keita stuff and wasn't a surprise. We played better when Thiago was on but that was hardly surprising as before it was akin to playing with a man down.

Taking a more general meaning of the question, then no, not really. At least I don’t think we’ll reach the heights of winning major trophies again. Confidence/self belief has been too badly hit for the same players to recover as a team, and I don’t think klopp will be around for long enough to build another team.

This season has been a write off since Gomez, Matip and Jota injuries. Coupled with everyone else's drop in form around the same time. We should go into the next leg with no fear of losing (it was the fear that killed us in the first leg).

If we win, hurrah. If we lose, a few more CL millions in the kitty and we wait for next season after a good rest. If the players and Klopp take that attitude then the relaxing effect may give us a chance. I would still drop Keita and Mane though.

There are certainly many reasons for our poor form but those clinging to the get Virgil back and we'll start hammering teams again I think are in for a disappointment. I think we have dropped too far too soon to just click back into our old ways.
