Any references in the Daily Mail article to her age being 18 are in single quotation marks. The article also reveals that it’s unknown how long they’ve been dating for.
Seems like some pretty dubious reporting.

It’s not so much a sex thing, it’s an exploitation thing. It sounds as though she was selected for marriage to a 30 year old man at 16, a likely life long commitment. This is not particularly uncommon in the world, but even being accepting of cultural differences, it’s not unreasonable of people to find it objectionable.

I do not believe that the well travelled, worldly Sadio Mane, at 30, could not find himself a better partner than a child of 16. This is not about 11 year age gaps, its about a 30 year old man, who's been living in Europe since 2011, pursuing a child to be his wife.

They are both from an entirely different culture/religion where that is not seen as inappropriate though.

Until fairly recently, that age gap/bride age wouldn't have raised an eyebrow in the UK.
