Exactly that!...put yourself in that girl's father & I would be happy to see my little girl marry a famous footballer who would have the means to look after his little girl for the rest of her life rather than being married to a ****ing goat farmer! & with a nice bursary to boot!
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

Which is why we look at it from the perspective of a child without sufficient autonomy to agree to a future that adult men have committed her to.

So? Aren’t we entitled to judge that an extreme patriarchal culture that removes agency from women and girls and marries children to men is ****ed up and suggest that well educated and worldly men should know better?

Depends entirely how you go about it.

Exactly, lets bring in a new law, a sliding scale of age of consent dependant on net wealth. Progress

If she is above the age of consent in that particular country and he treats her well, then I don't see a real problem with it. Do I think it's a bit creepy and weird? Yup, but then again I think there is a lot of creepy and weird **** that goes on in different countries, who have different traditions and ways of life.

She looked over the moon. Not only is he wealthy, he's shown he's responsible with his money and uses it to benefit local causes. I'd be extremely happy if I was part her family

Yep we can look at lot closer to home at people like Glen Hansard who many laud as some kind of stand up guy.

His relationship with Marketa Irglova was beyond creepy for me and I have never heard any of his comments picked up upon in a negative manner by the Irish media. Stuff like how he was falling in love with her from when she was about 14 but he somehow gets a pass by saying he waited until she was of legal age to take it public/further.

The fact she was still in her late teens and he was in his mid to late 30s when they were a public couple gets treated like it was a totally normal thing.

Not sure how many fathers on here that have a teenage daughter would be happy to discover she was in a relationship with a 36 year old man.

Might technically be legal for a 36 year old man to be in a full on relationship with an 18yo girl but once things like "I was falling in love with her for years prior" get chucked in it becomes a whole other level of wrong for me.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Diana first met Charles, Prince of Wales, the Queen's eldest son and heir apparent, when she was 16 in November 1977. He was then 29 and dating her older sister, Sarah.[38][39] Charles and Diana were guests at a country weekend during the summer of 1980 and he took a serious interest in her as a potential bride.

I just looked for the quote from Mandy Smith.

In 2010, Smith publicly called for the age of consent in the UK to be raised from 16 to 18, saying: "People will find that odd coming from me. But I think I do know what I'm talking about here. You are still a child—even at 16. You can never get that part of your life, your childhood, back. I never could."

43 year old Bill Wyman and 13 year old Mandy Smith.

Yeah, but that is well beyond the realms of legality and is sick. 34 year age gap coupled with how young she was. I'd have no issue had she been 23, he 57

No idea what the muslim thing has to do with the price of chips, but some people seem to be obsessed with bringing religion into the conversation as a way to excuse the behaviour or to try and use it to as a weak attempt to shut down the discussion by implying that the real issue is racism.

The quote actually states that Charles was dating her older sister in 77 and started building a relationship with Diana 3 years later. There are far more appropriate examples to use, such as Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith, a relationship I brought up with friends several years ago when it came up in conversation and I stated that he should've been locked up. I still don't understand how no action was made after the details were confirmed in her book. No religious agenda here, other than the fact that I think none of them should be above criticism, be it the Vatican who were complicit in mass child molestation and rape, shielding the offenders from the law or those believers in sharia law that deem it fitting that homosexuality should be punishable by death or incarceration. Its open season as far as I'm concerned, and shame on those that try to close down these conversations by throwing about thinly veiled threats and allegations of racism.
