Considering how much notice we had of his exit, the decision to rely on a teenager and a bunch of crocks to cover the gap in the squad was a very bad one. This issue we now have in MF cannot be a surprise to anybody.

As good a DM as Fabinho is, we are wide open without Gini, and a below-par Henderson and whoever else either side of Fabinho.
absolutely spot on this. I think some people are using last season to judge Gini but he is a huge loss to our midfield. I still feel he never got the credit he deserved, the balance and control he brought was so under rated.

Was mentioned by so many in the summer, it was so obvious and that not getting in cover in that midfield was a mistake. I just hope we have something lined up in January.

We had games where we would be open just like yesterday even with Gini in midfield so I don't think it's fair to say we shut up shop with him playing BUT it's absolute madness how mistakes can come back to bite you in the arse and not replacing him with a consistently available midfielder seems like a poor decision now. There's been a few recently , eh?

Maybe it's time for 4231? Hendo and Fab in the pivot. No need for Hendo to push up the pitch so much. He doesn't offer enough to be that far forward.

Really good shout but I wonder would changing the formation mid season lead to more issues.

However, looking at our squad, a 4231 formation might be a better fit alright

            Good call.

We played with Henderson and Fabinho using a double pivot in certain games during the title winning season and on our good run at the end of last season we often used Thiago as part of a double pivot, so it would not be something our players are not used to.

Its Ginis fitness and engine we miss. He also knew how to keep the ball well and find space. Nothing super fancy. Just a bit of strength, fitness and simplicity.

Bit more to it than that. A lot of intelligence too. Positioning, game intelligence, tactical understanding, discipline.

                  Get Kessie.

Great engine, quick, tallish, strong, good at intercepting play and at pressing, works hard off the ball and is good on the ball. Can sit deep and is good at playing box to box. Bit of a goal threat too. Only 24 so years left in the tank.

Six months left on his contract come January and has refused the offer of a new contract.

Then get Nkunku to be our more advanced midfielder.

                  Easy this transfer lark.

I watched some of the Milan derby on Sunday and Kessie got the ball on the edge of his own box, inexplicably dribbled into his box and then fouled someone and gave a penalty away

Not sure I would be using the performances of players on Sunday as a way to judge them tbh otherwise our own goalkeeper, our full backs and centre backs would be open to a lot of questions not to mention two of our own midfielders.
