That's really sad, can remember that season when we won all those cups. Was one of the best years of my life celebrated with good friends, great times. RIP Gérard Houllier, a true Liverpool football club legend.
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.

He turned the club around after the Spice Boys era and (with Thommo) laid the foundations for Rafa to build on. 2001 was probably my favourite year as a fan, being at all three finals in Cardiff and Dortmund. I often wonder how things would have turned out if he hadn't had his heart problem and made a mess of the following summer signings. RIP Gerard YNWA.
His role in our history shouldn’t be under estimated - he moved the club into the modern professional era
RIP Ged

Cardiff 2001 was my first final, loved all those European nights under him, some of my happiest memories are down to him
My primary school got to a cup final which was to be played at Anfield in 2001. Ged had agreed to turn up before we had a mountain of games due to the cup runs.
It was 2 days after a league game against Chelsea, 2 days before the FA cup final against Arsenal, Uefa cup final midweek after and then Charlton on the weekend to get into the CL so fair to say he was a bit busy.
Houllier still turned up as promised and watched the game.
As he walked down the line shaking our hands, I wished him good luck for Saturday and he had a massive grin on his face and slapped me across the face
Me a 10 year old child about to play a cup final at Anfield in front of the Liverpool manager and scouts more concerned about wishing a professional grown man good luck whilst my family watched on in the main stand wondering if i'd asked for a cup final ticket or to get a game in the final to cause a slap.

RIP Gérard. I was never his biggest fan due to style but you can't take away what he achieved and that treble run was great fun. He bought a professionalism in that was much needed. Seemed a genuine nice man. Sad news.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde
