    Andy Lee

Some might remember me going on about Andy here and on KT. Well he has continued his run in the paid ranks with a sixth round stoppage win in Vegas last night.

He is a great kid, who was a pleasure to be around when he boxed in Limerick. He has that something special about him, and will be heading for bigger things. A future undisputed middleweight/super middleweight champion of the world.

Blimey, that's some prediction. I'll keep my eye out for him.

Been saying that about him since I met him. A real nice guy away from the ring but all business with a killer instinct in it. I used to spar with him when he was coming through the ranks, and he was quite tall for his age and was strong enough to go in with a heavyweight.

As a kid he was doing things in the ring that some of the pros that I had sparred with could not do.

Yep, from when he was an amatuer at the club. My bet was that he would hold a World title by the end of 2008.

Really nice lad, was living out by the village of Castleconnell. He oozes ability and class. He is a tall middleweight and will fill out as he gets older and move up a division or two. He has a sweet jab, and great skills. He also has very good punching power and is durable. One of those fighters who can fight tactically or get into the trenches, depending on what is needed.

He will be a big name in the ring someday, for all the right reasons. His attitude to life and to boxing is a throwback to a different era.

if you could compare his style to anyone mate who would it be, i know that sounds like a smash hits question mate but thats the way i get an idea of the fighter, a tall middleweight always attracts my attention me being a great monzon fan (a comparison to him i wish!)

You know what? I have been asked that question many times before over the last six years about this kid, and I have always said that he is not the new anybody, he boxes like Andy Lee.

However since he has come under the wing of Emmanual Steward, there are shades of certain fighters starting to show in his arsenal. I see a bit of Thomas Hearns in him at times, especially in the jab.

Monzon is one of my favourites too, I thought he was an awesome fighter, although my fave had to be Hagler.

has Emanuel Steward trained the lad from an early stage if so he must have something special, i hate not spotting these young prospects must try and find time to read the small columns in the boxing magazines (i blame marriage and kids) i followed Tyson from his defeat against Tyrell biggs, i bet you haven't heard that before.

No, Steward has only been training him for a few years now as he was an amatuer before that. He used to box out of the club that I used to box out of and later coach in. That's why I pay such attention to what the lad is doing. But his ability is staggering. Steward spotted him after he had given one of Steward's boys a hell of a beating.

He is fighting out of the Kronk gym since he got taken under Steward's wing. He is sparring with big names and other up and coming fighters. He was Wladimir Klitchko's main sparring partner for the fight against Chris Byrd.

His family has a few boxers in it. His three brothers boxed. Two represented England and two (including Andy) represented Ireland. He was born in England and his family moved to Limerick in Ireland.

Plus I got my face on Eurosport at his second professional fight, which was held in Germany last year. He has had seven fights now, winning all of them.

I would yap about the kid all day, I have seen other fighters, who turned pro and became big names within boxing circles, but I have not had the pleasure and privilage, before Andy, to have a kid walk into the club and have such amazing natural ability.
