Aside from Australia the only teams that can win IMO are West Indies, South Africa and on the very outside Sri Lanka.

If Symmonds doesn't play for Australia then I'd say they are not the run away favourites you make them out to be.Originally posted by looprevil View PostAside from Australia the only teams that can win IMO are West Indies, South Africa and on the very outside Sri Lanka.
As it's a group system, then strange quirks do happen and I reckon there are more than 4 teams in with a shout including:
Aus
SA
India
Pakistan
NZ
WI
England
Sri LankaOriginally posted by Gordon Brown

Sorry to offend you but India just have not performed to the level required. They needed 38 runs off 9 overs with 6 wickets in hand, and lost!

For me it'd have to be:Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostWhat would be you England first XI then lads?
Mine: (not necessarily batting order)
Vaughan (capt)
Strauss
Bell
Pieterson
Flintoff
Collingwood
Nixon (wkt)
Giles
Plunkett
Hoggard
Anderson
Not Selected:
Solanki, Panesar, Loye, Cook
Joyce
Vaughan
Bell
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Bopara
Nixon
Plunkett
Andersen
Panesar
Obvious omission is Strauss but I really liked the look of Bopara the time he played and he'd maybe be better suited batting at 7. Strauss has had a crap tour and his fair share of bad luck along the way but it'd be harsh to drop Joyce and with KP hopefully coming back the top 6 picks itself.
You'd also get some overs out of Bopara and Collingwood with the 3 quicks and Monty doing the rest.

Here is my starter for 10....or 15
I think Broad could be our star of the world cup - he is class. I was at the 2020 final and he was in a class of his own.
Obviously KP will be key to our success, but when all is said and done we are **** and will not do very well at all. Success in the one dayers in australia will do nothing except provide people with false hope.
1. JM Anderson
2. IR Bell
3. RS Bopara
4. SCJ Broad
5. G Chapple
6. R Clarke
7. PD Collingwood
8. AN Cook
9. JWM Dalrymple
10. A Flintoff
11. AF Giles
12. MJ Hoggard
13. EC Joyce
14. A Khan
15. J Lewis
16. MB Loye
17. SI Mahmood
18. PA Nixon (wicketkeeper)
19. G Onions
20. MS Panesar
21. KP Pietersen
22. LE Plunkett
23. MJ Prior (wicketkeeper)
24. CMW Read (wicketkeeper)

I worry he will be found out on the Windies wickets which will not suite his type of bowling and I think there is a real possibility he will be targeted and dispatched all around the park.Originally posted by animal magic View Postmy england squad would be

With Mahmood's superior pace and bounce he will be much more of a threat, Hoggard only offers a threat when the ball swings and the white ball doesn't do that as much.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostSo you're going for 2 keepers.
No Hoggard, Giles or Cook
I think Giles deserves his place ahead of Dalrymple because he is a tight bowler when he needs to be, not particularly threatening but tight.
Mahmood's bowling is too loose for me, I'd rather have Hoggie.
I like the selection of Broad, I'd love to see how he copes.
As for having two keepers, if one gets injured what else are you going to do? The idea of taking more than 11 players is to take back up.Last edited by Colemere; 13-02-07, 05:51 PM.
