it looks like its between bopara and loye for the batsmen slot and mahmood and broad for the bowling slot
The future you have, tomorrow, won't be the same future you had, yesterday.

I think Collingwood should keep wicket for England.

He is an awsome fielder and should be able to convert easily. Imagine Colly coming in at number 7 for England, it would make our batting so much stronger. IMO he would do a great job behind the stumps as well.

Why does it have to be Gough?

Send some youngsters out there, ie Mamood, Plunkett and Broad all will all do better than Lewis and Hoggard on those wickets, plus we have seen that Gough is a complete liability these days. In the one day format, without swing this type of bowler struggles to take wickets and goes for plenty. At least the three I have mentioned might take some wickets.

They’re both so young with so much potential, which is presumably why the selectors seemingly have so much faith in the pair.
I agree, I really like Mamood, he has bags of potential. He reminds me of a young Harmison, but without the lack of self belief. The one thing he needs to do though is kuckle down because he sometimes comes across too laid back, in the field there are occassions where is has been bordering on the point of lazy and disinterested. If he gets his attitude right he could become one of the greats.

Agree about Mahmood, etc. being better than Lewis and Hoggard, pace and bounce will take wickets.

                My 1st choice England 11
                Joyce
                Vaughan
                Strauss
                KP
                Colly
                Freddie
                Dalrymple
                Nixon
                Plunkett
                Anderson
                Monty

                Rest of squad
                Lewis
                Bell
                Hoggard
                Giles

As to who will win, well the aussies are still favourites but in truth on any given day, any of the top 8 can beat each other. i think England will go well after their recent upturn in form. If Vaughan stays fit and makes some runs, their batting as very strong. Their pace bowling is still their weak suit. Flintoff apart, the rest are a bit hit & miss. Lewis is very consistent but lacks pace. Plunkett is improving by the game but in a tight finish I wonder who apart from freddie can really bowl at the death.

My fancy is the West Indies. Their key man is still Lara of course but watch out for Dwayne bravo. Flintoff apart, he's the best all rounder in the 1 day game. with home advantage, they may take all the beating.

We'll give at least one team a good game.

South Africa to win it for me.

I think it'll be entertaining whoever wins. I shall be supporting England because I was born here and raised here. My father may support Ireland but I doubt it. I bet my last penny that suddenly anyone on this board with any sort of relatives/ heritage from India, West India, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa etc will suddenly forget completely that they were born here and support another country. Of course, were England actually brilliant and these other countries **** then that might alter.

Sorry, but it always winds me up with cricket that folk tend to just follow the good teams and not the country they come from.

Moan over and apologies to anyone who actually doesn't have a British passport.

Why should supporting the English Cricket Team be a pre-requisite to being English?

People should be allowed to support whoever they want. You wouldn't say that only people from Liverpool should support Liverpool would you?

                              Squad has been announced:

England squad: Michael Vaughan (captain, age 32, Yorkshire), Ed Joyce (28, Middlesex), Ian Bell (24, Warwickshire), Kevin Pietersen (26, Hampshire), Andrew Strauss (29, Middlesex), Paul Collingwood (30, Durham), Andrew Flintoff (29, Lancashire), Ravi Bopara (21, Essex), Paul Nixon (36, Leicestershire), Jamie Dalrymple (26, Middlesex), Liam Plunkett (21, Durham), James Anderson (24, Lancashire), Sajid Mahmood (25, Lancashire), Jon Lewis (31, Gloucestershire), Monty Panesar (24, Northants).

Big mistake leaving Broad out IMO and also I am not sure what Bopara adds to the squad what with us having Dalrymple and Panasar.

I hope we don't open our bowling with Anderson and Lewis. If we do we are going to go for some serious tappage!

                              At least no Gough!
