Bangladesh 143 (37.2 ov)
England 147/6 (44.5 ov)
Match over
The crowd go wild while England look relieved more than jubilant. That was a mighty close thing, and Bangladesh really ran them ragged for a time there.
44.5 Mashrafe Mortaza to Nixon, FOUR, banged in, Nixon onto it quickly and lofting the ball behind square on the leg side
England's NRR has not been helped here ...
44.4 Mashrafe Mortaza to Nixon, no run, met with a straight and quite lifeless bat
All the field in, understandably.
44.3 Mashrafe Mortaza to Nixon, no run, full and angled across Nixon, who punches it to mid-off
44.2 Mashrafe Mortaza to Nixon, 4 byes, leg side, but the ball really spat as well, and it rocketed under Nixon's armpit and over the keeper's head
44.1 Mashrafe Mortaza to Collingwood, 1 run, saved by a thick inside edge - it was cleaning him up otherwise - and a run as the ball shoots into the point region

You are joking. That's like Scotland getting though to the second round of the real World Cup. How the hell are we still in it? I thought we'd lost every important game?Originally posted by animal magic View Postengland have 3 more games to play and if they dont win all of them they are out

What I can see is that test match mode still very much prevails, just looking at the way Vaughan sets himself up in the crease being one example, rather than being aggressive and run making and getting on with it, and creating winning opportunities, each of the other sides have a batsman or two that has a great strike rate, we don't.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostWhat a **** performance that was.
I didn't see much of it, but our demise is just a matter of time.
We're ****ing **** at one-day cricket.
However, it's all relative. We are in the top 6, which is better than India, Pakistan, WI, Ireland, and also means there are a further 180+ countries chasing us.
But I doubt I'll ever see us lift the Cricket WC in my lifetime, which is a pity seeing as I've seen us lift the football & rugby WC so far, but I live in hope, forever the bridesmaid is more like it though, like the football nowadays, qtrs & possibly semis if we're lucky.

I know what you all mean, but I keep deluding myself by thinking that if we get lucky against SA and beat Windies we go through to the Semi Final where anything is possible.........
then I remember we are poo and easily one of the worst big team one day sides in the competition and that it would almost be a disgrace if we made it through to the finals.

Pretty much the same here, but I want to know how we did so so well in the Aussie Triangular series only 2 months ago.Originally posted by captainfog View PostI know what you all mean, but I keep deluding myself by thinking that if we get lucky against SA and beat Windies we go through to the Semi Final where anything is possible.........

And when we get back, with nothing, the same committee suits as always will look into the whole debacle, make a nothing recommendation that won't be acted on and then carry on as normal as though nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, 20/20, as exciting as it is, will be another success (with Leics there or thereabouts!) and the suits will think all is rosy in the game seeing as there was a profit in it for the Counties, players playing an over abundance of meaningless County games augmented by 2 or 3 great overseas players topping up their pension, and playing one day cricket that looks nothing like what the test nations play.
And we will pop up in 4 years time having the same boring conversation laughing at our attempts to win the Cricket World Cup, isn't change (or lack of it) a wonderful thing!

To an extent I agree, however, the one day format at county level should give the players decent grounding. They play alot of one day cricket. What we need is a shake up of the selection comittee and the management team. We have the players its just they are either used wrongly or not picked.Originally posted by lfc4ever View PostAnd when we get back, with nothing, the same committee suits as always will look into the whole debacle, make a nothing recommendation that won't be acted on and then carry on as normal as though nothing had happened.
