    K1 fighting

    Anyone ever hear of this chap before "Mike Zambidis".
    Just watched this clip of him in action, cant help but to be impressed. Iron Mike
    Having said that, he has almost lost as many as he has won in Japan, but has an excellent record elsewhere in the world, various different world title belts, including , Thai boxing, kick boxing and was even Greek Champion boxer. A nice variety in his stand up fighting for such a small guy he is a fearsome opponent.

    Ohhh yes. Coached by Stan "The Man" Longinidis. Well he was, not sure if he still is. My cousin has sparred against him in the past (Stan that is).

    Mike fought in Australia so with my Greek heritage I followed him a bit. Some stunning wins. Great fighter for his size and they called him pound for pound the best kickboxer on the planet.

    Maybe he should move to MMA.

        Yeah, have seen him fight and train a number of times. Amazing little fighter, he packs a crazy amount of power, especially when you consider his size.

        He was a top class kickboxer before he got involved with the K1 ranks. He will be trying some new waters in the next year or so.

          I certainly hope so, would be a shame if he didn't.
          You seem to have got around Jaco, how did you get to train with this guy?

            Didn't train with him. He was training in the same gym as me for a while. He was an unknown outside of the fighting circles at that time. His form was very good, and as such, he caught the eye.

                Yes. Short career at it though. Was good, but was never going to be great. Was in the same bracket as fighters like Scott Welsh. At least I realised that early doors though.

                    You could, but I prefer to keep that to myself. I know two guys back in the KT days figured out who I was from my time on the European and Oriental scene, and I got a bit freaked by how much digging they did on me. One of them figured out who I was after a thread on martial arts, and he sent me a picture of myself from a K1 match. I used my Grandfather's surname at the time (was keeping a tradition going) so googling my real surname will not bring up anything, other than a stint as coach with the SABA.


                    I have been on Eurosport though, so you might have seen me at some stage, although the last time, I was part of the corner crew for a young fighter.



                    In the pro ranks, I was 7-1-1 when I called it a day. In the unpaid ranks I went 41-3. In K1 I was 4-4-1.

                          Yeah, we were both at the same club, CIE boxing club in Inchicore. Only a small little club, you may know of it.
                          He his dad, his two brothers and my mate and his brothers and myself made up about a quater of the club.
                          Peter Perry ran the show there.
                          I also done a little bit of Aikido, and Kempo. Jack of all trades and a master of none as they say.
                          I was the youngest in the club when he started, then he was the youngest

                            Yeah I know it. Been there once or twice. Actually I think I may have also been there for a fashion show too, if I am thinking of the right place.

                              lol i doubt it mate. Its a tiny little place, not fit for a fashion show. No hot water even when i was there
