Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I can'tOriginally posted by philred10 View Posti feal much better now hoey, like the look of banta cain but still feal tat the linebacking core aint the same with vrabel inside. looking forward to it greatly. in the other game i'm getting the fealing that manning is going to get it together in a play off game for once.

Who would have thought we could get two good defensive performances in a row. Saints Eagles games I missed because my satelite dish fell off (stupid wind)Originally posted by REDSCOUSER View PostGood game by the Colts, they totally bossed the Ravens offence. MANNING was sh2t as usual in a playoff game but thanks to Venetieri & the defence they won.
The Saints v Eagles game is gonna be a shoot out.

Andy Reid has a lot to answer for.Originally posted by Red Star View PostAs expected, the Saints won but only just! Great game, which could have gone either way. NOS look bound for the Super Bowl.
3 points down and the Eagles were 4th and 15 just inside the opponents half with 2 minutes remaining in the game and he PUNTS! PUNTS??!!!??? FFS.
Saints were nothing special. Chicago's D will shut them down.

Yeah, it was strange 'cos he went for 4th and 10 and they converted it with yards to spare so I thought he would go for it again.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostAndy Reid has a lot to answer for.

Hope to see the Bears dumped out to be honest. They are boring to watch. Would like to see a Saints-Bolts match-up now.

Brady does his magic in the 4th quarter once again. What a throw to set up the winning field goal.
Schottnehiemer is one of the worst in the league. How he has all them wins I'll never know.
Colts x Pats is gonna be a great game.,
Bears x Saints is an ok game, hope the Saints can win it.18-5-7-8-3

made perfect sense hoey, now epxlain how the pats will stuff the colts. i'll have a go first, brady has never lost in a dome, harrison may be better, hobbs could have the game of his life and asante samuel can play in such a way as to continue to ake me regret doubting him earlier in the season. on the offense hopefully the three pronged running attack will put an end to the colts annoyingly stubborn run defense.
personally am a bit worried about the tendncy to throw screens which failed miserably earlier in the season against the colts. either way it seems almost inevitable that it will come down to last second field goal.
in the nfc my hunch is the saints offense to fire, no idea why but think they'll have enough.

I think the big difference between this game and the last Pats - Colts game (and indeed either of the Colts playoff games thus far) is that now the Pats passing game has improved beyond belief. Gaffney and Caldwell will require much more attention than Gabriel and Caldwell in Foxborough. If Bob Sanders plays his usual glorified linebacker role (one which he is superb in), Brady will come out of the shotgun using spreads and pass the Colts to death. In the last game, Sanders didn't have to worry much about the Patriots receivers.
That in turn then leaves more room for Maroney, Dillon and Faulk. In a lot of games, you use the run to set up the pass. Make the opposition respect your play action calls. But with a defense like the Colts' (who are packing 8 men in to the box), New England could well use the pass to set up the run, drawing defenders out of the box, and opening up that previously suspect defensive front.
Any coach will tell you that you can't win being one-dimensional. And that's the mistake I believe both Brian Billick and Herm Edwards made against Indy. They just presumed they could pound it non-stop. Indy just committed extra men to stopping the run and it worked. After that, neither Baltimore nor Kansas City (or more to the point, neither Steve McNair nor Trent Green) have had much of a down field passing game this year. Indy didn't have to respect that aspect. They will on sunday. The Patriots may not have Larry Johnson in the back field or Marvin Harrison at receiver, but they've improved steadily over the year to be at a point where there's no glaring weakness in any phase of their game.
The battle between the 2 lines will be interesting. Light and Kazcur handled Merriman and Phillips very well. And they should be able for Freeney and Mathis. The major adjustment will be handling rushers who play hand-down instead of standing up like last week.
On the other side of the ball, Addai will find it very hard to run. He's good, but he's not LT. Wilfork, Warren and Seymour are very tough to run on. On top of that, Seymour and Warren weren't even close to healthy the last time around. That will vastly improve the pressure on Manning. Seymour being a step slow was the major reason we couldn't stop that 44-yarder to Harrison in October.
In the secondary, the last 2 games against the Colts, New England's defensive backs have given Wayne and Harrison a cushion off the line of scrimmage. The aim being to keep the play in front of them and limit big gains. I'm not sure they can do that this time. It didn't work. I reckon Hobbs and Samuel will have to beat the crap out of the Colts receivers in the 5 yard range and try to throw off the timing with Manning. If they can do that successfully, they're half way home.
It's going to be a tough game, and I can't wait for it.
But I don't buy in to the Patriot's "playoff mystique" thing. They'll win if they can keep their heads in the game and execute the small things as well as last sunday (like making sure it's a Patriot recovering every time the ball is on the ground). It's the same thing I've been saying all year. Same with the Colts. They will win if they're better on the day. And if they win, they'll deserve their shot at the Super Bowl. But it's not down to "they'll have to win one someday". The team who executes best, wins.
