    Carl Froch

Thought he was excellent last night. I don't like him - or to be precise - didn't like him - but I was very impressed the way he stopped that Russian geezer.

"Carl Froch's mouth writes cheques that his body can't cash" was a quote on here a while back. Whilst that may have been true at the time - I think it may have been a little premature.

He looks the business to me.

I said that, and still stand by it. He is no more than a top 10-15 fighter at world level. What is in his favour is the lack of fighters coming into their prime at his weight. Calzaghe would make mincemeat out of him if they were to met this year. I see Frock as a classic example of a big fish in a small pond.

And lets be honest, it is not as though he was up against a top notch fighter last night. Sergey Tatevosyan is a journeyman fighter, one that gets used to pad the records of average and overhyped fighters. The two biggest names on his record are Froch and Howard Eastwood, losing to both, and he has rarely fights outside of Eastern Europe. His own record is made up of bums and in a few cases, literally guys off of the street.

That fight meant nothing last night, and is been given the big hype up to push Froch's career.

I knew it was you who said it Jaco - but I didn't wanna 'diss' your input on boxing matters as it's usually spot on. I fear that you may be seeing this one wrong though mate.
Froch is already #3 in the world in one of the rankings and it'll take a decent fighter to beat him. You mention Chicken Joe; you really think Warren would let him near a fight with Froch and potentially lose his meal ticket? No, neither do I.

The ranking system is totally rigged nowadays so I do not pay much heed to it anymore. As for Warren, don't be overly surprised if you see Froch signing with him in 2008.

Froch has been carefully matched his whole career. I can appreciate the effort and training he has put in, and I acknowledge his ability is that of a top fighter at European level, but as a genuine world class fighter? Not a chance, although certain members of the press are trying to get that tag to stick on him. The world class tag is chucked about far too freely in boxing, and it is a tag that I think Froch will never earn in his career.

If he ever gets a world title, and that is a strong possibility as the division is not strong, then watch the way he is managed, and watch how often he wants to fight the best, but manages to avoid them.

I have watched him train and seen him fight quite a few times, and although I question his physical talents at the highest level, I would have even more reservations about his heart at that level, especially if he gets into the ring, hits a guy with his best shot, and has the guy blink a few times, and fire right back at him. It happens at some stage to all fighters and it seperates warriors from fighters, Froch, I think, is the latter.

If you want to keep an eye on a young fighter, one that may become a world class talent, I would suggest keeping an eye on a lad that I used to coach over here. He is fighting out of the Kronk gym, under the watchful eye of Emmanual Steward. His name is Andy Lee, a tall, classy Southpaw. He is a middleweight at the moment, but is a big and tall lad, and will be a super middleweight in time. He is the only young fighter that I have seen in the last ten years that I think will make it to the top. He turned pro in March of last year, and is 8-0 already.

Aye, top quality fighter that lad. Watched the card the Friday before Paddy's Day when he was before the Duddy scrap. He looked classy against Ortega and Salway too.

You should have seen what he was like five years ago. He was a pleasure to have in the club. He always boxed way beyond his years and experience. The lad has all the tools and then some. By this time next year, people will be talking about him and world titles, I have no doubt on that.

I have sparred with him often, in pretty competive bouts, and the kid was able to make me work hard. His punch resistence is frightening, especially when you consider he is a middleweight, and I am a heavyweight. He carries quite a dig too, and in both hands. He has at least 5 years before he starts to hit his prime, but will be stopping genuine world ranked fighters long before then.

He might need that punch resistance mind. He's prepared to take one to give one looking at his last few fights.

He has always loved a tear up. I would expect Steward to try and get him to hold back on it a lot more from here in. Mind you, the kid is only a pro for a year now, so he will take a bit to lose the habits.

Going forward he is ****ing savage. Nice variety too. Turned Jess Salway's ribs into pate with a vicious shot.

The lad has a whole box full of tricks. He is strong against southpaws and orthodox fighters. He can box and he can fight. He has high fitness levels and can give and take hard shots. He is a huge fan of the sport and it's history as well. And is well educated outside the ring, carries himself well. He will be a credit to the sport.

The only thing I wish he had was James Toney's ability to talk smack.

Nobody has Toney's lip. Man goes to bed at night and turns right round and talks **** in his sleep.

If Froch manages to secure a fight with the current WBC champion Kessler, as he is number 3 in the WBC rankings, we will see what he's made of. It's true that he looks great figting sub-par opponents but lets see what he's like against a real world class fighter.
