    Track World Championships

    Anyone else following this?

    It's a good example of how Lottery money and top class team management can really deliver sporting success.

    UK Athletics and the Lawn Tennis Association really need to be shot for their inability to come anywhere close to the achievements made in British cycling.

    The FA & SFA, RFC and ECB would also measure up pretty badly compared to it.

    As for results, the GB squad have won 5 golds so far, with the last day tomorrow.

        Hoy is brilliant.

        He was so close to winning gold in the team sprint. When he took over the team was almost 0.3 seconds down and he was up against the fastest sprinter in the world over one lap. He made up all but .002 seconds, equivalent to losing out on gold by 3mm.

            What it must be hard to progress to that 0.002 seconds in training. Could be years.

              Yeah with all the drug taking. I have lost interest really. I still remember Carl Lewis in his heyday.

                Mate Carl Lewis was one of my biggest sporting heroes when I was a very young kid. Poetry in motion, he was.

                Yeah I refer to all the cheating. The sport has been blighted to such an extent that it's almost completely irrelevant now, sadly.

                          hahahahaha, but seriously, what is the point of them doing 7 laps cat & mouse at snail pace, then 1 fast lap to see who is a "winner", why not just have 1 lap and get it over with?

                          And then following a moped round & round, I mean c'mon, it's supposed to be a "race" to the finish, not contrived.

                          I do like the chase pursuit events though where one tries to catch the other after setting off at opposite ends and it is purely flat out racing, and the team events are very strategic & technical, but some of the individual events are a joke.

                            The cat and mouse thing is called "tactics".

                            Following the moped is a bit bizarre but in cycling there is such an advantage to be gained by not breaking the air that having one event where no-one has to do that for most of the race is fair enough.

                            As for "contrived" pretty much all sports are made up one way or another. I mean, motor racing doesn't even require one car to overtake another on the track - it's all about how quick the mechanics are.
