    Amir Khan to fight......

Wllie Limond for the the Commonwealth lightweight title. Hardly the big title match that Frank Warren promised is it? I wonder why Warren never made a match with John Murray, WBC lightweight youth champion, or John Thaxton, British lightweight champion?

Limond has been picked as he is the easiest option out there at that level, and just wait until the spin doctors start. He will be made out to be a dangerous and genuine threat.

Khan's career looks to be heading the same way as Calzaghe's. Lots of bluster about fighting the best available, but settling for tomato cans time after time.

The only time Willie Limond has lost has been the only time he's fought decent opposition. He was TKO'edin the 8th round by a 15 fight Alex Arthur. Arthur went on to lose his next fight to the average Michael Gomez. That tells you all you need to know about Limmond IMHO. Arthur has improved alot since his loss to Gomez but round about the time of the Limmond and Gomez fights he was nothing more than an average up and comer.

Warren has picked the easiest possible fight for Khan and Amir is turning into a protected fighter.

As you say Jaco, Limmond is the easiest fight out there with a title attatched. I would give more credit to Khan/Warren if a fight with John Murray or John Thaxton was made but as we all know both those fights would be to risky for Frank Warren to make.

I am of the thinking that Khan is going to be the victim of a spectacular knockout if he keeps having his progress retarded by substandard match ups. He needs to be steadily meeting better fighters with each fight, but the standard that he is meeting is staying the same imho. Warren has his eye on one of the WBO belts for him, I think anyway, and is waiting for there to be a weak "champion" to be manouvered into a title bout for Khan.

only think I would say is that at stages through Gomez's carreer he was capable of putting up some very high class displays, his fight against Artur was a classic, both men getting up off the canvas to keep fighting, Gomez didnt have the mental attitude or respect to make it though.

'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

It's only Khan's thirteenth fight. I know De La Hoya was champion in twelve or something, but that doesn't happen often. I'm happy for him to fight through Commonwealth and European title fights before we start throwing him to Casamayor or Diaz.

If we can gird blades to his knuckles, then I'm all for it.

Frank Warren is no mug and will not risk his 'jewel' until he has milked out what he can from him.

Expect a World Title by the end of the year or early next year, followed by several successful defences, an acrimonious split from Warren and then who knows....

Right now my only concern about Amir Khan is his lack of natural power, although he will get stronger as he is still growing.

Naseem Hamed was perfect as he had the speed and the power to match. Shame he lost his appetite for the game after the Barrera lesson.

How old is Khan? Surely time is on his side... if he's still fighting weak opposition in 2/3 years time then call him for it.

Time is on his side, yes. But the quality of the fighters he is meeting has stopped climbing at the rate it should be at this stage of his career. As Hollow pointed out about De La Hoya, not every fighter can be going for a title this early, although De La Hoya was a far far superior fighter by his 13th fight than Khan is.

Warren tends to drip feed his fighters, and weens them on sub standard opposition, whilst trying to con the public into thinking they were genuine threats.

How good do all you boxing experts think Khan is? Or rather, how good to you think he can be?

I have begun to have doubts about him. There are a lot of chinks starting to appear in his armour imho. Not least, as mentioned already by Kurt, his level of power.

What did stand out for me in his last few fights, short as they were, was how open he leaves himself, he is just begging to be hit with a right hook, and at a higher level he will be.

I also have doubts on his defense.

I think he will operate at a high level, but nowhere near as high as the hype would have us believe. Warren will promote him and the masses will swallow what is being told to them.

A shame really, as the boy could go a lot further imho with a manager who was more of a purist.
