Why do they always have it on so late? It baffles me. They started the first session at 3 o'clock, why not have it a few hours earlier?

Yeah he was by far the better player throughout the final.

When I was a kid I was a massive Davis fan (sad I know) and I went to an autograph signing (at Boots in Barnsley. I have no idea why he ended up there).

He spilt a bit of ink on the table and completely dead pan pointed at it "That's my ink. Don't touch that."

I was a wee nipper with low standards so had him down as a comical genius as well as a snooker genius

He really did make the effort with the young fans but, even when he was busy at his peak. Fantastic guy in every way and it made me very sad to see his decline and his refusal to accept it.

He's way better than being remembered as a 3rd rate player.

We don't get snooker over here so I don't get to watch it, one of the things I miss. Nothing like it on a lazy Sunday afternoon when hungover.

What I don't get is how a player can 'decline'. I mean, obviously they do but it's strange because there aren't really any physical attributes required to play the game? On the contrary you'd think that players' understanding of the mental side of the game would only improve over time.

Weird though that it seems to start affecting players in their mid/late 30's. Hendry is what, 41, and he's been off the boil for several years now.

I saw that too, the eyes and the desire are definite factors, but after it finished Steve Davis summed it up perfectly, the main reason, is that the players are just getting better. John Parrot was never, at any point in the past, as good as most of these guys, that's the main reason why he's struggled.
