    MMA or Boxing

    MMA or Boxing

MMA for me and I'm just getting into it. Even my wife watches it which is cool as she doesn't watch any other sports with me.

MMA/UFC will not be dead. Boxing is going the way of the dinosaur. It is one "discipline" whereas MMA requires a lot more thought, skill and discipline.

Also, MMA is not currupt like the boxing world is. The best get to fight the best, as opposed to the best promoter gets to make the most money off a medocre fighter by getting him a title shot because the reigning champ is afraid of the REAL #1 contender.

          MMA is here to stay.

MMA for me, simply due to it being a more technical sport.

I even reckon it has a shot at being an Olympic sport in the not too distant future.

For fighting in the street? For becoming an expert? For watching on TV?

                  - MMA is pretty lame viewing, it involves lots of walking in circles, cuddling and a few seconds of explosive destruction.
                  - Boxing on the whole provides the spectator with more entertainment.

For self-defense a bit of boxing is better than a bit of MMA. Quite a lot of MMA is better than quite a lot of boxing. But ultimately the hardest mofo's are the boxers. Muhamed Ali had some exhibition fight against the leading martial artist at the time (Heavyweight world champ). It took 3 or 4 rounds, but once Ali planted one on him it was all over. The boxers are conditioned and trained to a higher level.

I go boxing but at the same time the article was spot on really. Boxing nowadays is ****e, every fight is a miss-match or cannon fodder for the next up and comer. The big fights have no real rivalry and most are just done for the cash. It's almost exclusively PPV and the heavyweight division is a joke.

I think the fact that Lennox Lewis managed to become world champion tells you everything you need to know.

MMA/UFC is a load of flashy hype though although perhaps it can grow in to some maturity.

That fight was in boxing. How do you think Ali would have done if it was actually MMA? Ali would have gone down the first time a kick was thrown or the MMA expert got a hold of him and tried to submit him on the canvas.

I agree Boxing for me too. You only have to see the worldwide hype around De La Hoya - Mayweather this weekend. Can't imagine the same hype for an MMA fight.

Yet, but believe me it's coming.

Floyd Mayweather is about to get the chance to back ups his claims that he can beat anyone in the UFC. Look for the UFC to offer him a freakin fortune to fight Sean Sherk in the near future. From what i understand, Sherk and Dana White will be at ringside tonight, couple that with the UFC's freshly inked deal with HBO and i'd say if Floyd doesn't pussy out (which he most likely will), we could see it happen.

As for the MMA Vs Boxing debate in terms of being pure fighters and athletes, I'm a big fan of both sports but believe me, boxers don't come close. Royce Gracie Vs World top 10 ranked middle weight Art Jamerson, Gracie by submission inside 2 minutes.

Watch as former world boxing champ and the greatest boxer japan has ever produced, Yousuke Nishijima is dismantled by average MMA fighter Phil Baroni. This is pretty much what would happen if Mayweather and any decent MMA fighter were to lock horns.

MMA fighters don't get the credit they deserve for training in 3 different sports. Wrestling, Boxing/Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu!
