The Browns coaching staff isn't all that and neither is Brady Quinn IMO, Russell is the man though.Originally posted by hoeyd2 View PostIt's happened countless times before and it'll happen countless times in the future.
Aaron Rogers dropped and hasn't done anything in Green Bay since (although that's party down to the fact that Brett Favre won't do his team a favour and retire).
Matt Leinart dropped (to a lesser extent) and seems to be developing well with Arizona.
Brady Quinn will have the benefit of good coaching and playing behind a potentially superb left tackle.
But JaMarcus Russell strikes be a bust waiting to happen. All measurables.
I don't care how many yards the guy can throw while sitting on the ground.
The Ted Ginn pick was bizarre. Why didn't they just make sure to hang on to Wes Welker? (Who will, by the way, thrive on Tom Brady's passes).
Anyway, it's all specualtion at this point. All this jostling for the Dan Snyder bowl. I just want the season to start.

The offer we got for Welker was just too good to turn down, and he is really just a slot receiver, as an NFL K/PR he never really threatened to break that many. Ginn on the other hand brings the kind of explosive playmaking skills any team would love to have and I'm sure Cameron has big plans for him. He's this year's Reggie Bush - teams will have to scheme for him and that will open up other opportunities elsewhere. The more I think about it, the more I like the pick, especially if the Phins had Beck ranked similarly or even higher than Quinn. Welker had a breakout season last year mainly because our line and QB play was so awful and he was the hot read on a lot of plays. I think he'll do well in NE but on paper Ginn is an upgrade, especially at returner.Originally posted by hoeyd2 View PostIt's happened countless times before and it'll happen countless times in the future.

I'm pleased to see that the macho world of American Football allows men to be open about being "slot receivers"..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I'm waiting for the joke about 'tight ends' and then we're pretty much done here

Seriously, what is a "slot receiver" then?.

A less-formal name given to receivers in addition to split ends and flankers. These receivers line up between the split end / flanker and the linemen. If aligned with a flanker, the slot receiver is usually on the line of scrimmage, and if with a split end, off the line of scrimmage. As with the flanker position, a featured receiver often takes a slot position with a split end to avoid jammingOriginally posted by Neil Young View Post

If there's 3 wide receivers playing, one goes left, one right, and the other somewhere inbetween them, i.e. 'in the slot'
So Neil, continuing with your arse analogy, one is the left bum cheek, one is the right, and the slot..."the correct decision would have been a penalty for us a red card for Gattuso and a yellow for Stevie"

Each to their own of course and that's absolutely fine.
