If you flip it horizontally it looks like some kind of gay SS logo. Utter ****e to be honest, but so is most of the organisational nonsense that accompanies such events. I mean how laughable was all the pomp and circumstance at the EC final this year? WTF were those drummers doing? Garbage.up your bum

Email from my mate (all designers BTW)In terms of getting as much exposure for the new brand, as quickly as possible, they have got it spot on.
My first reaction is that I didn’t like it, but in a world where mediocrity is rife and imagination severely lacking, they are to be commended for having the balls to do something so bold and unexpected.
I still don’t like the ‘london’ type bit though.
F*ck the general public....

My diatribe....
Do you know what I’m with Rydo, initially I thought it was a load of wank, however I’ve seen reports on it since.
That fud Coe talking about it made me cringe though – general tory bollocks.
It’s not just a logo is it though, it’s something dynamic and really seems to be the focal point of any ad… i.e. the logo breaking up and flowing along with runners etc. It seems easy to have a logo that is just an appendage (apt word given steve’s artwork) to a marketing campaign – this seems the opposite to that and this is where logo design is difficult.
I noted some ‘expert’ on the news saying that this logo isn’t aesthically pleasing (wank), and it doesn’t relate to London(wank), and says nothing about the event (even more wank). Where’s the rulebook on logo’s. As far as my non-expert opinion goes… a logo is a branding device to assist in the marketing of a company, event etc. END OF. And on that basis I think this logo will become a success.
Someone told me a Glasgow uni spent £150k on a logo. I’m sure that was aesthically pleasing, related to Glasgow etc. But I never heard of it. OK I know nothing of Glasgow, but I’m sure there are several examples that back up my point – so it still stands. I know of a University that is spending 2mil on a website (that probably includes their intranet and online market as well – but still that’s a helluva lot). Public sector eh?!
If the designers had the foresight to see the public reaction then it’s a master-stroke. Advertising isn’t cheap, and they have bought a hell of a lot of free publicity – any msg board I have been on have had pages talking about ‘it’, it’s made every news broadcast I’ve seen, column inches, and I’m off for coffee and we’ll probably be speaking about it there as well – OK 90% of folk are saying it’s gash, but it’s still publicity and effective marketing nonetheless.
Whatever anyone says it beat’s the **** out of the Olympic rings above ‘London’ with the Olympic colours waving through it.

People look at it and go, i like it or i don't like it. They have actually no idea in truth. The general public are ****ing idiots...FACT! Their opinion means noting.
The London Olympics have just bought themselves over a million pounds worth of advertising with a £400k logo. Masterstroke!
PS. that image that Marc posted is ****ing cringing... horrific and actually embarrassing....
