    Mr.Olympia

It's next month. If Ronnie Coleman wins, it means he's the most successful Mr. O of all-time with 9 wins (Arnold had 7, Lee Haney 8, and Britain's Dorian Yates 6 ).

I don't have a clue about too much of it. It's just such a freaky era of the sport, and Coleman has been the biggest freak of the last decade.

It's said that Jay Cutler is likely to be his closest rival yet again? Dexter Jackson though? Gunter Schlierkamp?

    Does anyone have any thoughts/insights?

They have a list of the contenders and their odds in Flex this month, but it seems to me that no-one really knows what form the main guys are in until they turn up on stage at the show itself. No?

Jay Cutler? I presume that's not the Denver Broncos quarterback?

Cutler, the football player, was asked about that recently.

            This is the other Cutler:

If he loses again, he says he's going to shave off his trademark blond hair.

Haven't these guys heard of steroids? If they got on them in a serious way, they might actually fill out a bit & look a tad harder.

                  They're all 'juiced'.

The very top guys probably haven't done it as much as people suspect though.

Amazing advancements in training techniques, I guess. No not really amazing advancement in HGH, roids, etc.

There are natural bodybuilder, and they don't look anything like that lot.

Moreso even than the steroids though, the big advantage that Coleman and the rest have over normal people is their genetics.

I've been lifting weights for a year or two now just to get into shape, and then I read John Hotten's 'Muscle'.

It describes it as just about the most extreme sport in the world. It goes into all the weird incidents (and deaths) that there have been in the past few years since bodybuilding reached the era of the 'freak'. He previously wrote a book on underground boxing, so he has an eye for this sort of thing. It makes the era of Schwarzenegger look quaint.

It's a shocking and ludicrous world. People who push the boundaries like this lot are fascinating. Hotten's book is well worth a read.

Tell you what's better than lifting weights mate. Hold a chair at the end of the leg with your arm fully outstretched, just above the level of your shoulder for 3 minutes at a time.
