    Own football problems..

i know there was kinda a thread like this a while ago with people describing their play, but seeing as its my off-season atm and not many coaching figures around my club i thought i might ask on here for a lil bit of help seeing as most of the people on here played/play football ^_^ let me describe the problem,

im 17, play in a pretty top quality u/18 league. Im 6'3 tall so quite a big lad and often play upfront. i sometimes have difficulty timing my jumps when crosses are sent in to get maximum power/control from my headers, something i need to utilize seeing as im tall!

any1 had the same problems or got any advice for an aspiring peter crouch ? Any help appreciated

eat your greens laddy and star working those neck muscles.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

    * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

there's not a lot anyone can do for you regarding your timing im afraid.
thats down to you, is it judging the flight or the speed of the ball thats your having difficulty with?
if your playing with the same players every week they should know how you like the ball to be played into you,if they dont ,tell them.
      after that practice,practice,practice.

do you close your eyes when you head the ball? the majority of people who are poor in the air tend to close their eyes/take their eys of the ball, thats one thing to look at.

The only thing i could suggest is during pre season training or whatever - get some to stand opposite a decent distance away and get them to throw the ball at you at various speeds/heights etc and you practice head the ball back with as much power as poss - after a few sessions you timing/technique will start to improve and will increase ur confidence.
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

ok, i always used to jump too early and be on my way down as i made contact with the ball. To correct this i time my runs, for example on corners, so that i will make contact with the ball when i almost think it is too late, but usually it is spot on. Basically dont rush your motions for fear of missing the opportunity or not making contact of the ball because if you go up and meet the ball as you are on your way down then you might as well not have jumped at all. Hope it helps, just from personal experience and fa level 2 coaching.
