So am I right in saying, tickets are on sale on the 17th and not the 7th of September?

ugust 31, 2007 -- EVANDER Holyfield is like most of us. He isn't sure whether Floyd Mayweather's decision to compete in "Dancing with the Stars" while training for his mega-fight with Ricky Hatton is marketing genius or an arrogant mistake.

"I definitely wouldn't be thinking about trying to do that," Holyfield said yesterday. "It could be a little too much."

Holyfield, a four-time heavyweight champion, speaks from experience - sort of. He competed on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2005, reaching the final five before being eliminated. Unlike Mayweather, he wasn't actively training for a fight. Mayweather will face unbeaten Ricky Hatton in a pay-per-view bout on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.

The ABC show's first telecast is Sept. 24, with the finale set for Nov. 24. Mayweather normally begins training camp eight weeks before a fight, meaning there could be as much as a six-week overlap when Mayweather is training for Hatton and competing on "Dancing with the Stars."

Holyfield said learning the various dance steps can be physically and mentally exhausting.

"They worked me harder than boxing," he said while in town to promote his WBO heavyweight title fight with Sultan Ibragimov on Oct. 13 in Moscow. "Dancing is a good workout, but it's stressful on your mind to learn four or five different dances. It's difficult."

The challenge of being in the highly rated dance competition while training for a fight is the reason Mayweather is excited about the opportunity.

"It's an unreal, unbelievable opportunity," he told the Grand Rapids Press. "It's a new test. But I think I can learn it. I'm a champion in the ring and I'm trying to be a champion on the dance floor."

It shouldn't hurt pay-per-view sales, either.

"This show is viewed by 20 million people. It will be great for boxing because mainstream fans will see a different side of Floyd," Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, said. "If you can attract new fans to the sport, at the end of the day, that's what it's all about."

Holyfield said he is excited about the chance to win a heavyweight title for the fifth time and expects Ibragimov will try to pound his 44-year-old body.

"He's probably going to throw more punches than any heavyweight I've ever fought," Holyfield said.

Big time, He should be seeking to gain every possible advantage he can get, the chap is already minted. He is a bit of a prize clown though, going around draping himself in gold like a christmas tree :whatever:

It's a bit disrespectful to Hatton IMO. I hope even more now that Hatton knocks the bollix out of him. If he was fighting a relative nobody then you might understand him doing the tv show

If anything this should spur Hatton on more

yes, Hatton will get confidence from this.
Mayweather seem all about the money this time, he obviously isn't taking HAtton as seriously as he should. Maybe he has gained too much confidence from beating De La Hoya.

Good point baz, beating a fighter of De La Hoya's stature would swell anyones head but if Oscar had been a few years younger then he would have done Mayweather over IMO although I still reckon De La Hoya did enough to nick that last fight.

I can't wait for this Hatton v Mayweather fight

Alot of fans will have to try and get them from the yanks or at least that's the way is seems.
