Yes dead right, he needed to loose a bit of his arrogance.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

they had EUR 10,000 on their man in the first round @ 66-1
I can see why now.

Not really, didnt realise it was such odds, they obviously know him well, and realised it was a good bet, if the real odds of it happening are less than 66-1, which it undoubtably was, it was a bet worth taking for them. They obvously had it to loose.Originally posted by superdan View PostSome balls to put that amount on!
And then, drilled it into their man to knock him out early
or else.

Cheers for the heads up bazza.
Dunne was cought COLD to say the least, he was up against a big puncher he just wanted to connect with a hay maker, and did early on.
The whole place was shocked, infact, i'd say, the whole of Ireland was shocked at the result, three knockdowns in the first 90 seconds.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

Must say though, I know its easy to say it in hindsight. I know we didn;t see much of the fight, but Dune did seem to want to trade, and for a fighter with such boxing skills and a much better reach, it was a very naive thing to do for a fighter who many thought was on course for a world title.
This will be a big lesson for Bernard.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
