Paulus' passing leads CBA past Liverpool

Senior quarterback Mike Paulus completed 22 of 29 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns Friday as Christian Brothers Academy pulled away from Liverpool in the second half for a 35-13 Class AA-1 victory at the Carrier Dome.
The 6-foot-5 Paulus, bound for the University of North Carolina, threw seven passes for 127 yards to ace receiver Marcus Sales, who scored one touchdown. Other CBA TD receptions were by Stephen Pride and Nick Trasolini.
Liverpool, which finished a 2-7 season in 2005, closed its deficit to 14-13 in the third period when Lonnie Johnson scored his second touchdown of the game on a 7-yard run. However, Ryan Argy missed the extra point, which would have tied the game. Johnson finished with 23 carries for 117 yards.
CBA, the two-time defending sectional Class AA champion, then broke open the close game with three late touchdowns. Defensively, junior cornerback Dan Sisto had three interceptions.

Senior tailback Quendel Ellison scored the first and last touchdowns of the game as visiting Auburn won the Class AA-1 contest and avenged a one-point loss to West Genesee a year ago.
The 5-froot-10, 195-pound Ellison powered into the end zone to cap a first-quarter scoring drive. Ellison also scored from 18 yards out with only 38 seconds left in the game.
Auburn took a 14-0 lead in the first when quarterback Darnell Murphy connected with senior wide receiver Brandon Tape on a 19-yard pass for the second Maroons' score.
