Ryder Cup Wild Cards - Euro

So, McGinley & Olazabal confirmed as final 2 automatic qualifiers for the European Ryder Cup Team.

    So top 10 is:

David Howell, Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Colin Montgomerie, Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson, Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley, Jose Maria Olazabal.

Woosnam is about to name his 2 wild cards in about 30 mins, rumour is Clarke & Bjorn, agree?

I prefer Westwood over Bjorn, just for experience as it is being played in Ireland, but the time might be just right for Bjorn anyway, so it's prob 50/50 all the same with nothing to split them.

It's about the only Golf tourny I take in an interest in from Day 1, most others not bothered till hole 9 on the final day

Sorry Bjorn, not this time, again.

He got it right for me. Westwood has won round the K-Club twice before and his form is steadily coming back.

I'm pleased to see that Darren Clark got back in. After the year he has suffered in his personal life I think it was only right that he be included to try and help him back to some form of normallity and there's also the fact that had he not had to stop playing for a while he would probably have qualified automatically.

This Ryder Cup is going to be close because the Yanks and the European team have similar quality throughout. The only the that we don't have that the Yanks do is Tiger Woods who is in the best form of his life at the moment IMHO.

He is in the form of his life but he never plays his best golf in the Ryder Cup. I honestly think Woods doesn't give a **** about it. He's so focused, so focused on his own game that he doesn't have time for what he sees as this 'irrelevant' team event. You kinda need a different mentality in this event and I don't think Tiger can 'switch off' from his normal mode - a criticism of sorts, but it's also a compliment as it's that attitude that's got him to where he is today.

Don't think Woosnam will lose any sleep over an astonishing (dummy spitting!) attack on his methods by Bjorn:

Thomas Bjorn has lashed out at Ian Woosnam after Europe's Ryder Cup captain left him out of the team to face the United States this month.

Woosnam preferred England's Lee Westwood to the Dane, despite the Englishman being lower in the world rankings and Ryder Cup points table.

"I'm shocked and have totally lost respect for Ian Woosnam," said Bjorn.

"My relationship with him is completely dead. It looks like he needs to learn how to be a captain."

Bjorn, who has played in two Ryder Cups, added: "If the choice had been made only on competitive results, I could go along with it.

"But I'm in front of Lee in all the rankings, I have played better than him in the qualifying phase and then Woosnam bases his decisions on results which are more than five years old."

Bjorn was referring to Westwood's victory at the K Club in Ireland, where the Ryder Cup will take place, in 2000.

Westwood has won two events at the Kildare course, has played in four Ryder Cups and took four-and-a-half points out of five in the Oakland Hills victory in 2004.

Bjorn, who has played in two Ryder Cups, added: "I don't understand the way he is handling the situation. I hadn't heard from him for six months.

"I have spoken to several of the players who are in the team and they haven't heard a word from Woosnam either.

"To be captain and not even communicate with your team at all - it doesn't give you much respect.

"It doesn't look like he is burdened with leadership qualities."

Explaining his decision to pick Westwood over Bjorn on Sunday, Woosnam said: "Thomas was in the back of my mind.

"It was difficult when I got back to the hotel (on Sunday) he was very disappointed.

"But the reason I went for Lee was because of his record in Ryder Cup."

Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke, ranked 22nd in the world, was also offered a wildcard after missing the last month of qualification to be with his sick wife, who died in August.

Woosnam added: "I feel sorry for the guys who have missed out.

"I tried to say [to Bjorn], 'I hope you respect my decision. It's been difficult. I know you're going to have a few words about it.'

"I missed out once and I was very disappointed, but someone has got to do the job, someone's got to pick the team.

"Hopefully when this blows over after a while we can have a few beers over it."

to be fair - as much as I like westwood and clarke, Bjorn has a point. He is a very good golfer with loads of bottle I'm not suprised he's pissed off - woosy has gone with the popular option, a certain former england manager from sweden

I wonder what would happen now if a player had to pull out. Would Bjorn be considered after his outburst?
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

I think bjorn has blown his chance for this one - I reckon any replacement required would come from the Ryder Cup standings, so whoever just missed out
