There was a lot of criticism of the fact that the Irish teams don't take the Celtic league seriously enough (and hence their players were not as battle hardened as say England) when they went out of the RWC do you think that holds any weight?

this was talked about on Scrum V - a bbc program on bbc1 Wales.

basically, they were slating the Magners league, because only Wales take it seriously, Scottish teams do mostly.

but the irish teams just play a bunch of kids and get beaten mostly.

Welsh teams are looking at pulling out of the league and trying to get involved with England

There is some truth in that as the Irish players play fook all in the Magners league cause the IRFU have a deal that the National players get a certain amount of time off and that they can only play a certain amount of games in the year.

The English Prem is a hard league and does the English team good and bad as it toughens the into playing hard rugby week in week out but also is tough on the bodies

The welsh teams have a 5 week break now to play in the Anglo Cup.

Ireland basically treat it as a development Compo. The Heineken Cup is the main focus

So true. I think the relationship between the clubs and country is a major reason for the terrible nature of England between the world cups. We have been very lucky to have veterans of the last WC there who seem to have instilled spirit during the tournament. I think it was a bit of a fluke and we do need to change the way we do things.

On the other hand both New Zealand and the Irish didn't gain a lot from the concessions they have at club level. It will be interesting to see what all the major nations do after the WC.

Does this make it unwatchable or is there enough competition for at least Welsh audiences to care? I would have thought that sort of league would be dull and hard to attract crowds and consequently sponsorship for.

yep, you can;t rest players prior to a world cup, loads of the NZ players hardly played in the super 14s

you might lose a few to injuries, but resting them is just as bad

the derby games ie: any welsh vs welsh game are still brilliant.

from our point of view, its just ****e because are boys aren't being tested.
