UFC 77 - Call the fights

    Rich Franklin V Anderson Silva

Well I think this is going to be a Classic. Rich I would think will want to stay on the outside to avoid what basically beat him last time out, Silva's monster thai clinch. Its not like Rich can take him to the ground either as they don't call Silva the spider for nothing .. so common sense would tell you Franklin will probably try and batter Silva's lead leg and pepper his cranium with punches

Silva on the other hand will probably taking a completely different tack in this fight and I can imagine him wanting to fake shoot a few times just to put the idea in Franklin's head which might leave his head a nice big target for a snap high kick. I think Franklin will be taking the belt back with a knock out punch. If it goes to the ground Silva will tap Franklin out ..

But something tells be this is going to go the distance with both fighters faces mashed up .

There think I covered all the bases with that "prediction"

I'd love to see it going the distance, but can't, if it does go the distance then both men are lethal on their day.
I really am struggling to pick a winner out of these two, I watched some of Silva's old fights last night on the internet, he is an extremely good fighter, and is stronger than he looks. Having said that, there is no way that he is stronger than Franklin.
Even though Silva's ground game has improved, I still think he is over rated on the ground, he is very good from his back though, seen a clip of him last night knocking out an opponent with a kick from his guard.
I would say Silva is more talented than Franklin, but Franklin the better athlete.
Anything is possible in this fight I guess, but I don't expect the fight to go the full 25 minutes.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

I'm going for Franklin by a whisker, predicting a very close fight as I think they are evenly matched but Franklin will be as focussed as anyone could possible be. Saw him on UFC All Access (with Rachelle Leah ) and appreciate most are but he is so dedicated and will desperately want to avenge his defeat

Silva is difficult to keep down and Franklin needs to stay the hell away from them knees but I think he'll just edge it

On a seperate note, hoping Vera knocks the boll#x out of Silvia - liked him in his few fights before he left the UFC a while back and I just cannot stand Silvia
At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

I would be happy if Vera beat Silva too, I think atleast, if someone like Vera became champion, we would see some title fights with a bit more action in them.

That is a really really tough fight to predict. I agree it wont go the full 25 tho.

            Main Card

Anderson Silva (19-4) vs. Rich Franklin (22-2) Franklin
Tim Sylvia (23-3) vs. Brandon Vera (8-0) Gonna go for Sylvia here.
Stephan Bonnar (10-4) vs. Eric Schafer (7-2-2) Neither will set the world alight, but I'm going for Bonnar even though he'll be ring-rusty.
Kalib Starnes (8-1-1) vs. Alan Belcher (10-3) no idean who these guys are.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

When you look at that, apart from the main event it's a poor card which is unusual for the UFC. Vera is only back having been away so impossible to predict what shape he'll be in and Sylvia is an ugly fighter at the best of times. Josh Burkman & Jason MacDonald aren't bad fighters but seem way down the list after recent defeats

Have predicted a Franklin win and hope Vera beats Sylvia but all it takes is for the Maniac to connect with one big hit and it could be lights out

Is this one being shown on TV? Which station?

Funny enough, UFC78 looks decent enough - not mad on the main event Bispin (who didn't deserve his win against Hamill & lost respct for the way he went on after winning) against Rashid Evans (who I don't rate at all to be honest) but Houston Alexander, David Terrell & Karo Parisyan all on the card

Know I'm going right off topic now but whatever happened to Evan Tanner - really liked him but hasn't fought for past 18 months - has he retired?

Tanner must be getting on now, he seems to have been around for ages. I think he must realise it the end of the line, or damn near the end of the line fas far as realistically winning the UFC title goes, if anything, he would be now fighting for money and an outside chance of winnign the title, if indeed he is not retired.
Rashid Evans will beat Bisping IMO. I think Bisping is more over rated than Evans, who was used to fighting at heavyweight, this weight division is much more suited to him.

Agree the division suits Rashid better but considering how poor Tito was in his fight, I thought Rashid was dreadful - he has an awesome physique but not sure what his actual strenghts are as he doesn't seem to excel at any martial art ....... might be being unfair as haven't seen a great deal of him but never impressed me when I have
