I can see that. I think the same is probably true in most, if not all, major sports.

Of course given the problems in cycling I'm hardly going to criticise F1 for its undoubted shortcomings as a sport.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

If this were true then surely it would have been easier to dock Alonso and Hamilton points for McLaren breaking the rules?

The temperature infringement wouldn't have made a sufficient difference to allow Hamilton to beat them. Why should he benefit from this? He bottled the race and doesnt deserve to be Champion. Awarding him the Championship in such a manner will destroy any credibilty F1 has.

I'm not pro-Hamilton at all but you seem very critical. Not satisfied with England losing the rugby, hmm?

It doesn't really have any credibility though, does it? After all, natural justice surely demanded that Hamilton be docked the points gained through McLaren's cheating in the spying scandal.

I'm not anti Hamilton, I think he's the star of the future, but the highlighted part of your message is my reason for being happy that Kimi won.

He hardly bottled the race, sure he made a mistake in the first few corners but if it wasn't for the problem with his gearbox he probably would have got the 4th place he needed to win the championship.
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

But if he didnt go off in the first few corners he would have got the 5th place that he needed to win even if his gearbox problem happened later on

Although reading the longer passages of the report quoted in a number of articles about this and other evidence I don't think they should have been sanctioned at all. If it hadn't been Ferarri involved then they would have had no problems getting off IMO.

Either way it's a farce then.

Very strange then that they just accepted the $100 million fine

Sorry m8 but I don't think there is as much bias towards Ferrari these days as there used to be.

So is it less corrupt than it was?

Have you read any of the transcripts? There is very little evidence. They gained no obvious unfair advantage unless you assume that no one in F1 ever talks to one another. Which is obviously unlikely in such an incestuous world.

Who do they appeal to? It's a self contained sport opperated by an organisation who test their rules with one team (Ferrari).

People close to the F1 world said they didn't appeal as they thought the same people who decided once would not change their mind and might well have pushed for disqualification of the drivers or a bigger fine.

Its a shame that Hamilton didnt win it and regardless of the scandals and irregularities Hamilton and Alonso were the more consistent drivers during the year, I say this as Raikkonen needed two more wins to get one point more. So to say that either Alonso or Hamilton didnt deserve to win the championship, if they had done so, is harsh.

The McLaren team messed up in China, by firstly not looking at the bigger picture regards to Hamilton's race, he didnt need to win it, and then secondly by pitting him far too late.

Secondly and crucially for McLaren, it is very rare that a team goes throughout the season without some kind of mechanical failure, although the failure didnt put Hamilton out of the race, he was due one in my opinion.

However credit has to go to Raikkonen, he did an excellent job in the second half of the season and got the result when he needed them. Well done him, and he did smile, you couldnt wipe it off his face at the beginning of the press conference.
